Caine1 vs Haley3 – Local tournament – Round 2

Hello everyone!

You may probably wonder where is Round 1 battle report? Well, 11 players attended the tournament, so somebody had to pause each round, so the first one was on me.

After my previous game against Cryx (HERE) I decided to change Nemo2 list a bit. I realized that I need a unit that have more attacks than 5 Vigilants. I decided to switch back to Gravediggers theme, as I loved how Commandos performed. I included Glynn and Alexia1 too, and left the battle group as it was.

This is the Nemo2 list I took for the tournament:

Cygnar
[Theme] Gravediggers

[Nemo 2] General Adept Nemo [+26]
– Centurion [16]
– Dynamo [18]
Glyn Cormier, Illuminated One [0(5)]
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen [10]
Trencher Commandos (min) [10]
– Trencher Commando Officer [4]
– Trencher Commando Scattergunner (1) [2]

Caine1 list remained the same (see below).

In the second round I drew Andrzej, against whom I already played during my list preparation process (HERE). I played Nemo2 in GD then and the memory of lack of magical weapons was still quite vivid in my mind, so list choice in this case was rather obvious. Andrzej decided to take Haley3 again, I took Caine1 and off we go.

Andrzej’s Haley3 list:

Cygnar
[Theme] Storm Division

[Haley 3] Major Prime Victoria Haley [+25]
– Stormclad [17]
– Thorn [13]
– Squire [0(5)]
Lieutenant Gwen Keller [5]
Stormblade Captain [4]
Storm Lances (min) [12]
Stormblade Infantry [9]

My Caine1 list:

Cygnar
[Theme] Storm Division

[Caine 1] Lieutenant Allister Caine [+30]
– Reliant [13]
– Stormclad [17]
Lieutenant Gwen Keller [5]
Savio Montero Acosta [0(6)]
Stormblade Captain [4]
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen [10]
Stormblade Infantry [9]
– Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard [5]
– Stormblade Infantry Storm Gunner (1) [2]

We played Binary.

Before I go to describing the game I would like to share a bunch of photos with you. I was so happy to see all the people I haven’t seen for so long!

Deployment

I won the roll and decided to go first. Andrzej took a side without a fire cloud in the middle and with a flag sitting in a rubble – so it was probably easier to score.

I deployed Stormclad on the right, Reliant on the left and Stormblades in the middle. SB captain and Acosta were deployed closed to the right side, together with Caine. Alexia was in the middle with Risen all around. The intention was to score my flag with solo, contest enemy flag with Thralls and fight for the circular zones with Stormblades. Knowing what happend in all my previous Caine1 games I planned to keep him safe throughout the game. And when is Caine the safest? When he is outside of all threat ranges, right?

Andrzej deployed Storm Lances on the left flank. Haley3 in the middle with Thron at her side. Stormclad and Stormblades were deployed closer to the right side.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

Caine cast Snipe on himself, since I wanted to keep him far in the back, he had to be able to reach enemy models. Stormblades receive Blur. SB cap used Desperate Pace on them and moved toward the flag. Both heavy warjacks ran forward. Stormblades ran even farther. Acosta, the bravest, rushed forward and took position in front of my army. Alexia walked up and created a Thrall who ran behind the house on the left. Gwen also ran toward the left side.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Haley3 moved forward and summoned her past and future versions. One of the Storm Lances assaulted the Thrall, but missed it. All the models ran forward and stayed outside of my charge ranges.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

Everything was far away, so I had to accept that Andrzej will be the first to charge in. I also dropped Blur. I layered my models so the back rows could counterstrike. Alexia created another Thrall who ran to the flag. Caine killed two enemy Stormblades and teleported as far as he could. Everything ran forward, but I kept my important pieces in the backlines. I was aware of domination, but I couldn’t do really much about it and I accepted that I will most probably lose one of the heavies. I had enough models around them to potentially kill in retaliation whatever killed my jack.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

Andrzej used Haley’s feat and started from Dominating Stormclad and walking toward his lines. Past Haley Force Hammered Reliant, but my friend rolled only 1 for a slam distance. On the next photo you can see the damage roll 😛 that was quite unlucky. Enemy Stormclad and Stormblades dealt with my heavy jack. I also lost one or two Stormblades (and Swift Vengeance on Acosta thanks to that). Squire captured the flag. Enemy SB captain and Gwen stayed behind infantry to follow up the next round. W both scored a point on our flags, 2:2.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

My plan was to push hard on the right flank and get rid of two Lances in the left circular zone. I started with Caine walking up and using his feat. I managed to kill all the Stormblades and with my regular shots I killed Future Haley. I also camped 2 FOC, just in case. SB captain gave Desperate Pace to my Stormblades again and they charge in. Together with Acosta they managed to wreck Stormclad and kill both Lances. They also used their mini feat (Iron Zeal). Reliant walked up behind the wall. Alexia crafted another Thrall who charged the last Storm Lance and contested the enemy flag. Sadly, he missed his charge roll. I scored my flag with Caine and the left zone with Alexia and Risen. I had to kill my own Risen, because he was to far from the zone hahah I didn’t put any model in front of Caine intentionally to avoid having a model slammed into my caster. I know Andrzej could target his own model, but why to make it easier for him? 😛 I scored two points, 3:1.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

Andrzej decided to clear the right zone and contest the left one. Haley3 summoned Future Haley again. SB captain, Gwen and Thorn managed to kill Acosta and Stormblades and cleared the rightmost zone. Past Haley walked into the left circular zone to contest it and killed Thrall. Storm Lance ran away, to allow Future Haley to Revive additional model. She was killed last turn, so she couldn’t do that right away. Andrzej scored his flag and a zone. My flag, however, remained uncontested again, so I scored a point too, 4:3 to my advantage.

Round 3 Turn 2

Round 4 Turn 1

In order to score the left zone I had to get rid of Past Haley. Caine had to get the job done himself. He walked up, shot twice and teleported away. After killing Past Haley I was comfortable with no camp on Caine. He was outside of any shooting threat ranges and spell assassination was out of the question. Alexia crafted another Thrall and one of the Risen I put into play at the beginning of the turn walked up and contested the flag. Stormblades charged the last Storm Lance and failed to kill it. The unit officer charged and killed enemy SB captain. My captain captured my flag. Reliant walked up to contest the rightmost zone. Gwen ran behind the wall to be closer to the place where all fighting was taking place. I scored 2 points, 6:3.

Round 4 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 2

Andrzej managed to kill all of my Stormblades. Storm Lance charged in and killed few Risen. Future Haley put some shots into Reliant. Gwen ran forward to contest my flag. Andrzej forgot to kill that Risen who was contesting his flag, so nobody scored a point this turn.

Round 4 Turn 2

Round 5 Turn 1

I had to kill Gwen to score one last point, and Caine did it himself. I scored one more point, and we finished the game with the result of 7:3.

Round 5 Turn 1

Afterthoughts

I created a buymeacoffee profile, where you can support me and contribute to development of this blog by buying me a “coffee”. Funds gathered this way will be used on blog maintenance and making more 3D terrain 😉
If anyone would like to do so, you can follow the link below. You can also leave a private message there. Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated!

It was so difficult to distinguish one blue model from another! We had to put a lot of attention to tell one model from another sometimes haha

FINALLY, I managed to keep Caine alive! I had to identify the biggest threats each turn and prioritize it. First, I got rid of Future Haley, when she was too close and was threatening my caster. Then, I had to kill Past Haley to clear the zone, but also to put Chain Blast out of the table to be safe from any Holy Mary CK.

Also, including Alexia1 to the list was the best of my ideas if it comes to Caine1 list. She is so useful, especially in such low point formats. She maybe doesn’t do a lot herself, she doesn’t pay off by killing models, but she is worth her weight in gold when it comes to scenario. If not for her, it would be extremely difficult to continuously contest enemy objectives. Sometimes, Thralls are also useful in killing my own models 😀

I was happy with how I played Caine. He did what he is best at doing – he was picking off important pieces and teleport away from enemy threats. He also did what he is worst at – he survived!

It was a really good game, thank you Andrzej! And see you next time!

Cheers,
Piotr
