Constance1 vs. Cyrenia1 – Oslo Team Tournament – Round 3

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the delay in posting more battle reports. Let’s get back to it! After winning two rounds of the team tournament (of 16 teams) we got to the stage where there were only 4 unbeaten teams. In the Semi-finals we got to play against a Swedish team.

I cannot recall now who was in the team, but I got to play against Fredrik, a Protectorate player. He had Cyrenia1 and Kreoss3 as a pair. I should probably go with Siege1, but I decided to give Constance a try again ; )

Precursor Knights (max) [14]
– Morrowan Battle Priest (2) [0(4)]
– Precursor Knight Officer & Standard [4]

We played Bunkers.

Deployment

I won the roll and decided to go second in order to pick the better side (without a huge obstacle next to one of the flags). With such quick list perhaps I should have gone first?

Anyway, Fredrik deployed cavalry on the right and Cinerators on the left, heavy jacks closer to the center, and all the rest in the middle.

I deployed the center piece of the list, Blockader, in the center. I put PKs on the sides, accompanied by Morrowan Archons. Constance, Alexia1 and Thamarite Archon were deployed in the middle.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

Fredrik advanced cautiously forward to stay outside of Blockader’s spray range. Cyrenia cast Dash and Inviolable Resolve on Vengers.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

I spread my PKs across the table putting few forward tempting Fredrik to kill them to trigger Vengeance. Constance cast Fortune on the Blockader. The colossal moved forward and stayed outside of charge range.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

Fredrik of course didn’t fall for triggering Vengeance and repositioned his forces slightly. Cyrenia gave Tough to Cinerators and cast a Rock Wall in front of the two Cinerators put forward to contest the flag. Vengers withdrew and took better position for contesting.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

I decided to charge in and get 2 scenario points. Constance cast Crusader’s Call and moved slightly forward to be able to get more souls. With help of two Archons, Precursor Knights managed to clear the leftmost flag. On the right, I managed to kill two Vengers and deal some damage to Sanctifier. Blockader stepped forward and stood there with anticipation of how the situation would develop. I also managed to contest the opposite rectangular zone with one dude, 2:0 in my favor.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

Fredrik stuffed the area next to the leftmost flag with nasty Cinerators and managed to kill a handful of knights. Warder ran to contest my zone. Dervish managed to bring down Thamarite Archon. Vengers killed a couple of PKs and one of them blocked Blockader hehe Sanctifier hid behind a Rock Wall. Fredrik scored 1 point, 2:1.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

Morrowan Archon charged the jamming Venger and killed him. I failed horribly leaving the contesting Venger alive, next to the rightmost flag, what was very sad. In the middle the same PK unit managed to deal some damage to the heavy warjacki hiding behind the wall. Blockader moved in, finished him and dealt some damage to Dervish. What was more important, he managed to push the Warder outside the zone. Alexia created a Thrall that charged the objective and contested the zone. On the left side, my models didn’t do too much, I scored one more point, 3:1.

Round 3 Turn 2

Round 4 Turn 1

Fredrik charged Blockader and with all the bonuses he could get, he wrecked my colossal with a couple of swings. Gravus captured the flag in the middle. Both flanks remained contested. My Morrowan Archon on the left successfully prevented Cinerators from hitting anything. On the right flank Vengers kept fighting with PKs. Dervish stepped to my zone and Frederik scored 2 points, 3:3 with 9 seconds on his clock.

Round 4 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 2

On the right flank, I simply couldn’t get rid of the contesting Vengers. One Battle Priest contested the opposite Rectangular zone. I was running low on time, so I decided to clear my zone. One of the Battle Priests engaged Dervish to give Flank to my caster and Constance with Ragman’s buff moved forward and wrecked Dervish to pieces, I scored one point, 4:3. Sadly, I didn’t take any photo, as were running out of time for the round.

Round 5 Turn 1

With 9 seconds on the clock Fredrik couldn’t change the result of the game and we shook hands.

Afterthoughts

That was an exciting game played till the very end! Not being able to clear that rightmost flag was very frustrating. I noticed also how easily somebody can jam my colossal. With close to none ranged attacks I find it difficult to get rid of said models. I had to sacrifice a potential scenario point to clear the path for Blockader.

The Rock Wall was an issue, as I lack reach on the models, and placed properly it prevented PKs from releasing their full damage potential. I believe in this game I could have play Blockader on a flank, instead of the center. I will finally play him on the flank, I swear 😀 Going first, with great threat ranges, could have been another solution.

Thanks, Fredrik, for the game! It was really tight, and what’s great, we got to play a rematch the next day!

Fortunately, one of my teammates managed to win his game and we got to the finals!

Cheers,
Piotr
