Constance1 vs. Omodamos – Oslo Masters – Round 5

Hello everyone!

In the fifth and the last (to me at least) round of Oslo Masters on Friday I was to play against Infernals. My experience back then was quite limited to only 1 tournament game and few practice games heavy loaded with proxies.

Robin, a very friendly Swedish player, brought Omodamos and Zaateroth to the event. I knew I was going to field Constance anyway, Robin picked Omodamos.

Hey Robin!

We played Recon II.

Deployment

I lost the roll and went 2nd.

Robin deployed the Gate centrally with Omodamos right behind it. He deployed 3 out of 4 his heavies on the left and solos somewhere between them.

I deployed Blockader slightly closer to the left flank, Morrowan Archons on his sides. Constance and Alexia1 stood in the middle. Precursor knights were deployed on the flanks, the bigger one on the right.

Also, before I get to the game, take a note we started the game quite late and we were both tired already : P

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

All the models ran forward. Omodamos created a Desolator our of Saxon. Nothing spectacular for now.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Constance cast Fortune on Blockader and walked forward. Both Precursor Units ran far forward. Alexia created a Thrall. All the Archons also ran forward. Pretty standard round 1.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 1

One of the Cultist units jumped out on my right flank and charged in, missing the first attack against Thamarite Archon resulted in no more attacks there at all, thanks to Dodge. Horrors walked up the board and Robin hid one Tormentor behind the wall. Apart from that one of the solos (Orin I believe) walked up and Omodamos changed him into a Desolator. Wretch used his Ancillary Attack ability and made him kill 2 or 3 PKs with one spray. Later, the Horror withdrew behind the cloud (that appears after summoning this particular model). Apart from that, only slight repositioning happened.

Round 2 Turn 1 and a sneaky way to remember about Countercharge

Round 2 Turn 2

With Vengeance triggered on both units I was hoping for a successful turn. Thamarite Archon on the right got rid of all of the Cultists there. Constance walked up and used her feat, she also cast Crusader’s Call. Ragman walked forward and used his Death Field. Blockader charged the one Horror on the left, but didn’t get enough damage… Morrowan Archon, together with PKs charged Horrors on the left, but even though I used both Constance’s feat and PK’s mini-feat it wasn’t enough to get enough damage done. Only one Horror went down there. On the right, another unit of PKs charged forward and together with Morrowan Archon they managed to put another Tormentor down. Alexia created a second Thrall who charged the objective and dealt 7 damage. The other Thrall scoread a point on flag to 1:0 to my advantage. Well, that was not something I was expecting honestly, I thought the turn will go much better.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

With all the models served on a plate, Robin could do anything he wanted to. One Tormentor with all the bonuses available is usually more than enough to get rid of a colossal and Robin didn’t prove me wrong, one Tormentor was more than enough indeed. The Morrowan Archon though, survived a lot and stayed alive, the zone remained contested. On the other side, Robin killed the Thrall and damaged the Thamarite Archon with a spray attack. Another attack missed the Archon, so he dodged to B2B contact with the flag. Omodamos and Valin both charged into the zone, unfortunately, Valin repositioned away and ended outside of the contesting range. At the end of his turn, Robin realized that he left the Thrall alive and most of his attacks were already used. He had to try to kill him with one of Elish’s spells, fortunately to me, hitting a Thrall in a cover isn’t that easy. Because of that, I scored one point on my flag and Robin couldn’t score a point on his, 2:0 to my advantage.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

I was incredibly lucky, as attrition-wise I had no chances at this point. I had 2 points advantage and I had to score 3 to win the game. Flag was mine already, I had to kill everything in the zone apart from Omodamos and score it with Constance. To score the third point I had to kill the objective while contesting Robin’s flag. Constance cast Crusader’s Call, charged and killed Valin. Morrowan Archon killed both Cultists in the rightmost zone. Gabriel used his pistol against the objective and Thrall managed to finish it (thanks to Hermit’s -2 ARM aura). I still had Thamarite Archon who, in case sth would go wrong, was able to put 1-3 arrows in the objective. I scored 3 points, 5:0.

Round 3 Turn 2

Afterthoughts

Oh dear, that was an incredible ending. We both were really exhausted at this point after playing 4 games that day and we finished something around 21.45.

In the 3rd round Robin focused mainly on gaining an attrition lead, and to be fair he did a great job annihilating most of my army. Fortunately, while focusing on models closer to my side of the board, Robin overlooked that nasty Thrall hiding in the middle of his army, and the moment he realized he is still there, it was already too late.

That was the only way I could win the game at that point, as I was facing 5 heavy Horrors, with several new to come : P and it would be virtually impossible to get rid of them in later stages of the game.

I find having a colossal (or a huge based model in general) in a list a dead weight while playing against Infernals. Any Horror is able to one-round the precious model and it’s difficult to get any value of it, so I would recommend having that in mind while building a list against Infernals ; )

That was the first time I played 5 battles one day and I must tell you – it is tiring. Although I finished in top20 with only 3 games won I felt ok, as that time was definitely well spent! I was eager to test FitD more. I didn’t have enough time to test and learn the list better before the event and I could feel that. Anyway, I was so excited for the next day as we were to play a team tournament and that’s always fun!

Cheers,
Piotr
