Constance1 vs. Omodamos – Oslo Sunday Tournament – Round 2

Hello everyone!

I hope you are doing well wherever you are ; ) I’m stuck at my home as my office sent everybody home to work remotely and I find it surprisingly difficult to find time and motivation to write battle reports. Right, without further ado, let’s get to the report!

In the second round of solo tournament on Sunday in Oslo I played versus Sindre and a borrowed army of Infernals. You might probably recognize the glorious gate on the photos and guess who helped out Sindre : P

I dropped Constance and Sindre’s only list was Omodamos, so here we go.

Please keep in mind that Sindre was still learning the army and that was his second or maybe third game.

We played Recon II.

Deployment

I lost the roll and Sindre decided to go second.

I deployed my colossal in the middle of the deployment zone. Both Morrowan Archons and Precursor Knights were deployed on each side. Thamarite Archon took a position on the right flank. Support models and Constance were deployed in the middle.

Sindre deployed the Gate on the right flank, Omodamos in the middle and Horrors around him. Both Umbral Guardians stayed in the reserve.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

As usual in the first round, most of my models ran forward with an exception for Alexia1 who created a Thrall. Thamarite Archon ran far forward, right behind the rock. I tried to keep most of my models outside Gate’s shooting range.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Sindre’s army cautiously advanced forward. New Tormentor was summoned. All of the models kept safe distance from my army. Regna summoned a Shrieker.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 1

Since all Infernals models were outside my charging range I decided to move forward a little bit, to force Sindre to engage first and see where it all will go. I only needed to keep my crucial pieces safe.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

Sindre summoned another horror (Desolator this time). Tormentors, together with a Desolator, managed to clear front lines and Soul Stalker dug deep into my lines and killed a Thrall who was sitting on the flag. Fortunately, my important models stayed safe. Sindre scored a point on his flag, 0:1.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

This turn I had to kill as many horrors as possible. Sadly, my Blockader was blocked by a Soul Stalker and I couldn’t do anything about it. Ragman moved in and used his Death Field. Constance feated. Blockader took care of the sneeky snake in front of him, clearing charge lanes for my infantry. PKs charged in and used their mini-feats to boost the damage output even higher. I managed to take down 3 horrors. On the right flank, Thamarite Archon moved forward and shot a couple of Cultists in the back-line. Sindre put an Umbral Guardian into the game. I killed him, took control over him and tried to kill Valin, but he was simply too tough. I contested the other flag and scored a point on mine, 1:1.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

Sindre decided to use terrain to his advantage. He noticed I didn’t put enough models in the leftmost rectangular zone. Another Desolator appeared behind the forest and with an Ancillary Attack he managed to kill all the models there. On the other side, a Tormentor hid behind the huge rock to stay outside of my charge ranges. This way Sindre scored 2 points, and I scored one, 2:3. Desolator on the left used all his essence, since it was crucial to hit and kill all the models in the zone, so due to the Tithe rule it evaporated.

Round 3 Turn 2

Round 4 Turn 1

Horrors on the left flank were pretty close to my army, and most important, to my Blockader. I decided to go for them and for the Gate. I was thinking about going for Omodamos, but he was just outside my range. Instead, I killed both Horrors and the Gate. This way I got rid of the biggest threat and left only one Horror alive. I scored two points, by killing the objective and controlling my flag, 4:3.

Round 4 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 2

After realizing there’s not much that can be done, and killing Constance is out of the question, Sindre surrendered and we shook hands.

Afterthoughts

Protecting and saving Blockader for the late game payed off. His 4” melee reach combined with Constance’s Crusader’s Call and Ragman’s Death Field is something to be afraid of. Layering Precursor Knights is important, as the combination of Vengeance and Crusader’s Call allows those second-line models to charge very far.

Sindre’s idea to take advantage of the terrain was great, and had a significant impact on my strategy, as I had to maneuver around that huge forest and the impassable terrain on the right.

All in all, it was a nice game with a very friendly opponent, thank you Sindre! I hope Infernals are doing great for you!

I have one Oslo game left, then I will describe one battle from our WTC bootcamp and I will move straight to Polish Team Championship!

Cheers,
Piotr
