Constance1 vs. Zaateroth – WTC Bootcamp before Polish Team Championship

Hello everyone!

I hope you guys are doing well and have time for the hobby ; )

On Friday, preceding the Polish Team Championship, a WTC Bootcamp was organized in our gaming place in Warsaw. My friends wanted me to test Constance vs. Infernals, so I asked Tomasz for help and we scheduled a game on Friday evening.

Tomasz brought Zaateroth and I obviously took Constance.

We played Bunkers.

Deployment

I won the roll and decided to go first. I deployed Blockader on the left side of the objective and Infantry all around.

Tomasz deployed the Gate behind the building. His Horrors were deployed on the right side of the board.

Round 1 Turn 1

My army ran forward and stayed out of spraying range. Thamarite Archon took position behind the building and both Morrowan Archons took one flank each. Alexia created a Thrall. Constance cast Fortune on Blockader.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Tomasz’s turn was pretty standard. Regna summoned Shrieker, Zaateroth summoned Desolator. Tomasz shifted his forces toward the right side, close to the house.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

As the whole Infernal army was outside of my charge range, I decided to put some Precursors up front to force Tomasz to kill some of them to trigger Vengeance. Blockader stepped forward. I tried to keep Archons considerably safe. Alexia created another Thrall. I set up for the following round.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

Sadly, I underestimated Infernal’s ability to clean infantry and most of my models on the right flank evaporated. Tomasz didn’t trigger Vengeance on the other unit on purpose. He also repositioned his models the way he was outside of most of my charge ranges, ouch. Tomasz scored one point as one Griever ran to contest my zone and the others engage Precursors in melee, 0:1.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

I noticed an opportunity to score three points, but I shouldn’t have exposed too many models, as I did that turn, sadly. Constance cast Crusader’s Call and I managed to clear both flags easily. One of the Precursor Knights contested the rectangular zone and I scored 3 points, 3:1.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

Tomasz decided to take advantage of the situation and go in. He was still respecting the threat that Blockader posed, so some Horrors were kept in reserve. The middle flag and the one on the right were easily cleared. Zaateroth used her feat. Sadly, I lost two Archons, the only one survived on the left, despite being charged by an ambushed Cultists, and contested the flag. Tomasz scored 3 points, 3:4.

Round 3 Turn 2

Round 4 Turn 1

I was running low on models and cookies, I still had Blockader intact, though. The thing that annoys me the most is that one Horror usually is enough to wreck a colossal, its sooo frustrating. Next time I’d like to try a Precursor-based list with a couple of heavy jacks. I think Stryker2 is the direction to go ; ) Constance used her feat and I charged in with what I had left. Blockader charged Tormentor and Soul Stalker. Alexia finished the sneaky snake. Morrowan Archon together with Gabriel tried to get rid of the other Snake, but failed. We both scored a point in our rectangular zones, 4:5.

Round 4 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 2

It was rather a cleaning the table turn for Tomasz. Getting rid of my heavy hitters and few infantry models I had sealed the victory basically. Tomasz scored two points, 4:7.

Round 4 Turn 2

Round 5 Turn 1

I managed to clear my rectangular zone and score one more point, 5:7. A thrall contested the opposite rectangular zone and single models contested the flags.

Round 5 Turn 1

Round 5 Turn 2

Tomasz scored 4 more points and we shook hands.

Round 5 Turn 2

Afterthoughts

Tomasz with his great positioning forced me to be the one who engage, twice. That allowed him to thin my ranks and begin fight on his own terms. I could have stayed on the edge of the flags’ contesting range, though. The second round was especially painful, when I lost most of the models on the right flank.

Despite long charge ranges Tomasz managed to keep his Horrors safe and kill all the models I put in charging range. The positioning here is the key, and I need to improve that for sure!

I believe that Stryker2 would have better chances against Zaateroth (I already played that match up, but I still have to describe other games before that one and I don’t want to spoil anything).

Thanks, Tomasz, for yet another game 😉 the second one that week, and not the last one haha

Cheers,
Piotr
