The first game was against Hendrik and his quite unusual pair of Tristan2 in CM and Thyra1 in Guardians. Siege1 is my drop into either due to Explosivo and GP being able to circumvent the Menoth anti-shooting tech, and Hendrik drops Tristan2:
Protectorate Army - 75 / 75 points [Theme] The Creator's Might [Durant 2] Sovereign Tristan Durant [+28] - Devout - Judicator - Redeemer - Redeemer - Hierophant [0(3)] Exemplar Warder [0(5)] Three Wracks [0(3)] Vassal Mechanik Vassal Mechanik Vassal of Menoth Choir of Menoth (max) Visgoth Juviah Rhoven & Honor Guard Vessel of Judgment
I win the roll to go first and elect to start, ensuring that I can grab as much table space as possible. Hendrik picks the side with the hill/rough terrain in the middle. There is a lake on the left, a hill on my right-hand side in his AD-line and two forests on my side of the board.
I proceed with a quite standard deployment with one Strider about 1/3 into the board from each side, going through a forest each since most of my list does not have Pathfinder. Hendrik deploys the Judicator far to my right with most of the supporting models and Tristan in the same area, and only Roven & C:O joins the Vessel of Judgment on the left-hand side.
Cygnar Turn 1
Turn 1a is very straight forward for me; just get the necessary spells up and run. Right-hand Charger gets Explosivo, right-hand Strider Arcane Shield, Siege1 gets FFE and most things just run, respecting the range of the Judicator and aim-Redeemers and otherwise just trying to gain as much ground as possible.
Protectorate Turn 1
Hendrik moves up in response and drops a few blast templates among my lines, killing some Risen and injuring Ace and the Firefly in the middle. He also puts Alexia1 on one box after she transfers damage to a few Risen.
Cygnar Turn 2
Siege puts up Foxhole in the central zone to protect against the barrage of Menoth guns while staying out of 15″ of the Judicator. I focus my fire on the middle Redeemer with Triumph, Siege and the right-hand Strider (given Magic Weapons from the objective), and it goes down. On the left-hand side of the board I do quite a lot of damage on the Vessel of Judgment and kill one of Roven friends. I take care to line the zones with my army to prevent him making a scenario play.
Protectorate Turn 2
Hendrik goes for the shooting attrition game, targeting the Arcane Shielded Strider on my right and putting some damage on it and Triumph (after Shield Guard). He also wipes Alexia and the remaining Risen off the board. Unfortunately he forgets a bit about scenario and does not contest me, and I score two points at the end of his turn.
Cygnar Turn 3
I only need to kill his objective to score another four points for a 6-0 win, and I take it. Knowing we are going to play another three games today I’m happy to cut it a bit short and save some energy.
Hendrik is a great opponent and his list seems quite scary for me even though the casters are a bit unusual compared to other Menoth players. It would have been interesting with a longer game to see the dynamics of his list; the Judicator especially is always a nuisance but by putting it quite far to one flank I think I could have pushed the left side of the board by focusing my fire on the Vessel, Roven & C:o and his objective, and then I cannot really see how he could contest that zone before I take a scenario win.
Always a pleasure Hendrik, until next time!
