Game #13 Thagrosh2 vs. Barnabas2 – The Finishing blow.

Hello everyone!

Finally I have managed to play couple of games after recovering from man flu. What a relief. Thanks to that break from work, I had time to paint some models, not Legion models sadly.

The first game after the week-long break I played against Konrad and his Minion list, that he is currently working on. This time he decided to try Dracodile with Barnabas2. As Konrad admitted after the game, normally he wouldn’t play this list against Legion, as I can go around most of his tricks.

Konrad’s Barnabas2 list:

Minion Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Will Work for Food

[Barnabas 2] Barnabas, Lord of Blood [+23]
– Bull Snapper [5]
– Dracodile [36]
Alten Ashley [0(6)]
Dahlia Hallyr [17]
Efaarit Scouts [0(6)]
Efaarit Scouts [0(6)]
Wrong Eye [17]
Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron [5]
Farrow Bone Grinders (max) [8]
Farrow Valkyries [8]
Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew [2]

I played my Thagrosh2 list that I was previously testing with an idea in my mind, to test it with Throne in the future games. The list I used:

Legion Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Oracles of Annihilation

[Thagrosh 2] Thagrosh, the Messiah [+25]
– Angelius [17]
– Angelius [17]
– Nephilim Protector [10]
– Neraph [12]
– Seraph [14]
– Typhon [20]
Blighted Nyss Sorceress & Hellion [0(6)]
Blighted Nyss Sorceress & Hellion [0(6)]
Spell Martyr [1]
Blighted Nyss Shepherd [1]
Blighted Nyss Shepherd [1]
The Forsaken [0(4)]
Ice Witches [7]

Deployment

I won the roll, what effectively gave me big advantage, since I had superior threat ranges. I put Angelii on both flanks, accompanied by Hellions. Thagrosh, Neraph and Typhon in the middle. Seraph stood next to Typhon to Slip Stream him in 1st round. Nephlim Guardian was placed between Seraph and rightmost Hellion. Support stuff was hidden behind the beasts. Left Hellion was proxied by a Cryx cavalry model

Konrad placed Dahlia and her snake on the right flank, accompanied by Bull snapper. Firing squad, composed of two Efaarit Scouts and Alten, was placed on the opposite side. Barnagas, Wrong Eye and Snapjaw with a pot stood in the middle. Dracodile proxied by Sea King was placed a bit to the left side, I’m prety sure you can spot him on the photo below.

Deployment

Round 1

Aggravator, that I am still forgetting about, cast on Thagrosh2 and Dragon’s Blood on Typhon for free thanks to theme bonus. I run with most of my models as far as I could. Hellions kept safe behind my models. Leftmost Angelius was hid behind the perfectly placed cloud. In this position he was able to easily threaten deep into the board without a risk of being shoot down.

Konrad put a model in the way of Dracodile (in order to keep him considerably safe from retaliation) and assaulted left Angelius, missing his shot with a reroll from Puppte Master. The rest of the models advanced cautiously and positioned adequately in order to be able to kill whatever will get closer to Dracodile. Wrong Eye stood behind the Godzilla and cast Star-crossed. Snapjaw advanced forward, out of Tyhpom threat range. Targ made Dracodile shoot again, without success.

Round 1

Round 2

I wanted to deal as much damage to Dracodile as possible, killing it even in case I got luck enough. First thing’s first. Thagrosh used Feat and cast Manifest Destiny, what deffinitely diminished the effect of Star-crossed. I Slip Streamed Neraph to the side, allowing him to charge Snapjaw this way. Ice Witches cast 3 times Puppet Master on left Angelius, Typhon and Neraph. Seraph with his 2 shots, lowered defence of Dracodile and Snapjaw by 2. Angelius charged for free Dracodile, dealing 20 damage with his Armor Piercing Attack, wow. I dealt a lot of damage with his remaining 4 fury. Manifest Destiny and Puppet Master makes Angelius very dangerous. Typhon contributed and sprayed Godzilla 3 times. Neraph charged Snapjaw killing him easily. Hellion charged Dracodile dealing 3 damage more. He was left with 5hp. On the right flank I just advanced and shot couple of models. Forsaken removed all 5 fury from Typhon. With my feat movement and attacks I managed to remove the gargantuan and move away with Typhon, Seraph and right Angelius away from retaliation. Honestly, I didn’t expect Dracodile to die this turn, but Angelius dealt a ton of damage.

Round 2 Turn 1

Konrad faced a tough situation. He planned to heal his gargantuan with feat and kill whatever wanted to finish him off. Fortunately for me, he was forced to change his plans. He decided to take revenge and use his feat nevertheless, making sure that models that contributed to Dracodile’s death will pay the price for it. He charged Neraph, Angelius and Hellion and did his best to remove them. Somehow Barnabas missed almost half of his attacks and left Angelius on handful of boxes. Remaining models were not able to finish him off. He contested the zones with remaining models.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3

In my turn I killed the objective with healed Angelius and used his animus to push Barnabas away. Typhon cleared the left zone, Thagrosh advanced into the circular zone and I killed the contesting gobber on the right flank, what secured me 4 points.

At this point Konrad couldn’t prevent me from winning on scenario, he could contest the zones, but I would be able to kill anything that would enter them. We shook hands.

Round 3

Afterthoughts

The first charge this game came out to be a finishing blow at the same time. Barely one-rounding Dracodile AND Snaphaw basically secured the win, as Konrad didn’t have any warbeast left in the middle part of the board. I got really lucky that turn. Unfortunately, Konrad wasn’t able to test this list properly and we didn’t have more time to replay the match up that day. As I said previously, Konrad normally wouldn’t use this list against my tournament pair (this plus Anamag) and I would probably face Jaga-Jaga. I’m pretty sure Anamag cannot handle a gun line. Because of that I have to change Thagrosh2 list a bit, so I would have a game into shooting lists. Next game I played against Paweł Blados and his Skorne gun line with the very same Thagrosh2 list. After said game, I was sure I need Throne in this list. I will describe it in the upcoming post 😉

Cheers!
Piotr
