Game #16. Jarl1 vs Madrak1

I finally found some time to write a report from the game I played 1,5 week ago. I had an opportunity to play for the first time against Teciu – a local troll player who came back to WMH after a long break. He almost exlusively plays Madrak1 and I wanted to test more my Jarl list. And the lists are:

– Skaldi Bonehammer [5]
Trollkin Fennblades(max) [15]

Trollkin Long Riders(max) [20]

I won the starting roll and choose to go first. I put Bombers on both flanks, Champs to the right and one unit of Bears to the left. Teciu park Fenns to the right and Long Riders to the left. His Mauler went on the left and Earthborn on the right side where you can see that sweet spot with wall and water for all the bonuses for the beast (+2 speed, def and armour). On the photo below beast stands in the other way, but we switched a moment after.

First round went as usual. I put Quicken on Raiders, Tactical Supremacy on the Stone and Weald Secrets on Champions. Alle the forces moved forward, one Bears and Lookouts waited in ambush.
Teciu filled thew stone and moves as well. He intentionally run Bisons in the range on ambushing Bears thinkink they will survive and retaliate. Even ground was up.

I started my second round with ambushing Bears and Lookouts on the left. Upkeeps were for free so I decided to shoot some Fenns with Jarl (who got Magic Bullet from Runebearer) and Bomber. I wanted to get most of the enemy unit, but due the the amazing tought rolls (and no knockdown) I only managed to clear the Officer and 1 or 2 grunts. Raiders should jammed enemy Champions but I made bad decisiond and even worse positioning puting them in some stupid places and did some uneffectively shots. Lookouts shot 1 or 2 Stone members (the little guys did good work as always) and ambushing Bears ate almost 3 Long Riders (one survive thanks to tought roll, I believe). I FEATed that turn.

Teciu went for the scenario. He contest my flag with Fenns, park his Fell Caller near his flag and clear some Raiders. Bisons killed Bear Handler and half of the Bear. Mauler went forward and Earthborn stood in his sweet spot. Champ Hero run to jam another Bear unit. Madrak hid behind the forest and FEATed. 1:0 for Teciu.

After last round ehen most of the Fenns survied my shooting I decided I will try CK this game. An opportunity came and I wanted to try it. Unfortunately I forgot to run Lookouts for Mark Target bonus. Instead I moved Bobmer and boosted to hit a shot on Madrak and… failed. Hmm, not good – this Bomber end his life here, because Mauler is like 5-6 inches away… Bears on the far left killed Long Riders leaving only one alive. I lost one Bear in another unit because of Retaliatory Strike form Champ Hero. One Champ run to jam Earthborn. Jarl shoot to death some Fenns. I tried to scratch enemy Champions too but failed to do it (no charging really hurts) and now I have full unit at my face. On the bright side – I killed a Runebearer with Magic Bullet. 2:0 for Teciu.

Mauler went for the Bomber and kills him with the last attack (he wasn’t Raged, because Madrak without Runebearer need his Fury on other things). Champions and Fenns killed remaining Raiders and a Bear.
3:0 for the enemy…

Now I knew I had to kill Madrak or loose on scenario. He stood on 1 fury and stiil have Scroll of Grindar’s Perserverans left. Believe me – it looked quite ok for me πŸ™‚ I just needed to free Valka and will have him, Bomber and Jarl on Madrak. Madrak is def 16 with Even Ground and have concealment (forest), armour 19 counting stone. Firtstly, I run Lookout for Mark Target. And then my brain stops functioning well, because from that moment I forgot to count +2 to hit… stupid me πŸ™‚ My Fell Caller and one Champ cleared some models. Bomber activated and shot twice, boosting to hit. First one hit and Teciu used Scroll. Second I missed by 1 or 2 (will hit if I remembered Mark Target)… Valka then charged and hit like mad, but Madrak transfeered it to Earthborn. Secon attack did some poor dmg… It started to looks bad. I have ony Jarl to finish the job. Thanks to Black Penny I ignore Valka engaging Madrak. I put Weald Secrets on Jarl, moved and shoot 2 fully boosted (to hit and dmg) pow 12. Firtst roll was really low… and then I needed to roll 17 on 3 diced to kill Madrak. Hmm, guess what? I rolled:

Madrak failed tought roll!

It was so tensed, now I wait for the call from Hollywood. Someone have to make a movie about it!

Thanks for reading!
