Game #17. Madrak2 vs Kallus2

Hello guys! It’s been a while since my last report 🙂 Some Christmas stuff and winter holiday drag me away, but I am back! Since the last time I played (and loose) three 35 pts fun games and one 75 pts vs Mercenaries led by pre-CID Fiona. Anyway, lets forget those and focus on my last game vs Maciej “Cień (the Shadow)”, which you already know from my previous battles. Onto the lists:

We both played our list for the first time, so mistakes happened 🙂 I lost the starting roll and went second, but I choose the side where I can park Earthborn for all his elemental bonuses (between central house and little green pond) while standing in the zone.

Deployment

Legion turn 1. Maciej simply run his forces and Kallus cast Blazing Path. We both had +2″ deployment from themes so our front lines were really close and I have not even moved yet…

Trolls turn 1. Earthborn charged Tentacle killing it and landed in the sweet spot. He also used his animus to be safe against Hellmouth drag. Fell Callers shout Pathfinders to the Fennblades and right Long Riders. Both cavalry went forward with one grunt from each unit run far for jam / bait. Horthol on the right stayed a little back. Fennblades on the left spreads. Madrak cast Warpath, put fury on the stone and charged. Stone advanced, filled for 3 and put aura with no continous effects. Mauler went a little bit forward, but I misscalculated threats and forgot about Kallus’es spell Overrun – and that cost me a beast next turn… Warders hang with Madrak.

Legion turn 2. Warmongers cleared some models (a few Fenns, Long Rider). Golab killed Long Rider near the house and sprint back. On the right side Warspears managed to wipe out Long Riders (they were preyed) and choose Mauler as a new prey target. They did a lot of dmg and I lost my beast. I forgot to take picture here, sorry.

Trolls turn 2. I decided it is my FEAT turn. Madrak did not upkept Warpath. He cast Blood Fury on himself (for 1 thanks to Harmonious Exaltation from Runebearer) and – if I rememeber correctly – he killed Chosen and then put Blood Fury on Fenns. Fell Caller put +2 Mat on Fenns, they used minifeat (No Quarter) and charged, wiping almost all Warmongers, Chosen and some Tentacles. Woah – they performed great! With all those emotions I forgot to take a picture again – sorry once more… Points: 0:0

Legion turn 3.
On the right Carnivean dismounted dragged Horthol and destroyed my objective. I lost 3 stone members there too. On the left fire dmg from Blazing Path, Gorag and Warchief removed my Fenns from the table. Legion scores, 2:0.

Trolls turn 3. Right Fell Caller gave +2 mat to Madrak and sprayed Warspears but missed all his attacks… Madrak had to do this for Fell Caller – he came and killed Spears, then put Blood Fury on Warders and stayed with 2 fury. One Warder stayed close to my warlock and two went for the left zone. With help of a single Long Rider they killed Gorag and Tentacles, but failed to kill Mouth – so no point for me… Horthol hits Carnivean for about nothing.

Legion turn 4. It turns out that 2 fury and a bunch of guys is not enough to keep Madrak safe… Kallus, Tentacles and Warchief cleared some models around. Carnivean charged with assault (clearing more grunts) and after all his attacks Madrak left without fury and without Grim Salvation targets. Golab came to finish the job:

He did not died as a hero…

After-game thoughts: I still cannot decide the final shape of my list. I like min. unit of Warders (arm 21 under the stone, 2″ reach), but I probably will replace them for max Kriel Warriors, reduce stone to min. and add Feralgheist. This will bring me more bodies to protect Madrak or additional screen for valuable Long Riders. I could also replace Earthborn with Brawler – under feat it will be a murder machine. However Earthborn is better as a scenario piece.
Lastly – note to myself: 2 heavies can kill Madrak even if he is surrounded by a bunch of guys 🙂
