Game #21 Anamag vs. Vayl2

Hello everyone!

In the fourth round, the last one that day, I was to face another Legion player. I wasn’t too happy about it since I was pretty sure I will play against another Anamag. I hesitated a second to take Thag2 this time, just to play something different, because I couldn’t find joy in playing Anamag again that day. Finally, I took Anamag anyway and Kamil, to my surprise, took Vayl2. I wish he had told me earlier that he didn’t want to play Anamag too, I would take Thag2 with pleasure.

Kamil’s list:

We played The Pit II.

Deployment

Kamil deployed as a first player, Throne in the center, majority of his warbeasts on the right flank. Gremlin swarm on the left flank.

I deployed around Blight Bringer with Gorag’s gang and Warspears to the left where the wall was placed, so I could benefit from it. Remaining Warmonger units were placed on the right flank. Hellmouths on both sides.

Deployment

Round 1

Kamil decided to run forward and kept his models safe from being dragged by Hellmouths. Admonition on Carnivean on the left.

I run forward with Warspears facing prayed Throne. Warmongers kept safe distances, maybe too far back. Birds spread across the left flank awaiting dead bodies to sit on.  Having several lines of Ogruns in reserve, awaiting to receive the alpha strike feels good somehow.

Round 1

Round 2 Turn 1

Kamil decided to go all in and charged with his beasts on the right flank and Throne in the middle. Vayl feated and cast as many spells as she could. The battle engine killed couple of Ogruns, but couldn’t get to the second or the third line. Scythean used his animus and killed 2 or 3 Warmongers triggering Vengence. Rightmost Carnivean assaulted Hellmouth dealing few damage to the maw, knocking down a Warmonger.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

In my turn I had to retaliate hard and leave nothing alive. I had plenty of targets, but I had to plan it carefully in order not to overcommit. That was definitely my Feat turn. Warmongers alongside with Hellmouth handled Carnivean and Scythean easily. Warspears failed to kill Throne, but Blight Bringer was there to help. Gorag used his mini feat and the unit charged Carnivean and… I forgot about Admonition. Birds charged Hellion and repositioned behind the enemy lines. I cleared the right and central zone and killed the objective. 3:0 in my favour.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3

Kamil didn’t have too many models alive. Carnivean charged in and contested both zones. Seraph surprisingly had more than 1 shot, but it couldn’t make a big difference. Naga with Forsaken killed couple of Ogruns.

In my turn I had to clear two zones in order to win. I killed Carnivean with my Vengence attacks and cleared the right rectangular zone from whatever that contested it. I scored another 2, won 5:0 and we finally could go grab some drinks and chill out with the others.

Round 3

Afterthoughts

It is very dificult for Vayl2 with a beast heavy list to deal with that many Ogruns. Without significant damage buffs and range threat it is hard to chew through the heavy infantry. If I knew, I would totally take Thagrosh2. I forgot about Admonition, because I got too relaxed about the game. I need to stay focused, especially while closing the game.

I didn’t describe my third round on purpose, as my friend, Artur, will describe it soon. I will post comments from my point of view in orther to present another perspective.

Guess what I played against in the next round? I’m pretty sure you guessed.

Cheers!
Piotr
