Game #32 Anamag vs. The Child

Hello everyone!

In the 3rd round of Wrocław Masters I got paired against Roland and his Grymkin army. I decided to take Anamag, because of amount of Grievous wounds under her feat and Ammok taking Incorporeal away. Roland decided to take The Child.

Roland chose Sacrifice and Labyrinth in addition to The Child’s Wrath.

We played Recon II.

Deployment

I won the roll and decided to go second because of 2 reasons: lack of a wall that would block my Blight Bringer’s placement and better Maw’s placement. Unfortunately, lack of linear obstruction on my side ment that Roland will get to hide his beasts behind it. I hid the other Maw behind the house.

Roland deployed his models more or less in the center of his deployment zone with an intention of hidding his 3 S&M behind the wall.

I deployed my Blight Bringer in the middle with an intention of going left, where flag wouldn’t limit BB’s placement. Gorag’s unit and Warspears on the left, and the other 2 units of Warmongers on the right.

Deployment

Round 1

Roland just ran forward, and as predicted, placed most of his beasts safe, behind the wall.

I had to check twice if the photo was taken after first round or just after Roland’s first turn, but apparently I just ran everything forward, putting models in a line, almost as they were deployed 😛 One tentacle managed to charge left Rattler and dealt some damage to my surprise.

Round 1

Round 2

Roland decided to put one of S&M forward to bait my charges and kept the other beasts behind. S&M charged Tentacles and killed them both. Rattler killd the third one. On the other side Roland cleverly used Gremlin Swarm to block my tentacle’s drags. Another S&M hid behind the building. Right Rattler stood somewhere back.

In my turn I decided to take the bait and kill whatever was there to be killed and prepare my second line to retaliate in a way that would kill all the remaining warbeasts. With help of BB’s shot and additional strenght Warspears managed to remove S&M that they had pray on. The other unit with Maw’s and Harrier’s (!) help managed to remove the right Rattler. I had to gave up scoring the left rectangular zone, otherwise Rattler would survive. Harrier had to finish him off. I scored only one point.

Round 2

Round 3

In his turn Roland went all in and charged my Ogruns with his warbeasts. He managed to kill whatever he charged at, but due to my positioning he couldn’t get to my second line. The right Maw went down. Roland couldn’t contest my flag. I went up to 2:0.

I was afraid that Rattlers would be a problem, but the last alive just couldn’t chew through high armoured Ogruns. Vengence attacks dealt significant amount of damage to Rattler and Skin&Moans. I used Anamag’s feat, dragged one S&M, charged in with my BB and with help of Ogruns killed the S&M. The other died to Warspears (and some additional attacks from BB I believe). Gobbers put a cloud up, just in case. On the right I killed the last S&M and went up to 4 points advantage.

Round 3

Round 4

In his turn, Roland charged in with The Child but that wasn’t enough to get rid of BB. He almost managed to clear right rectangular zone, but one Ogrun survived. This time the right flag was contested.

I had to kill a Crabbit in the left rectangular zone in order to win. I scored the last point and we shook hands.

Round 4

Afterthoughts

As long as I would be able to keep models in several lines and keep Blight Bringer safe, I believe this match up is really difficult for Grymkin player to win. Especially, since I am able to take incorporeal away and kill those nast Gremlin Swarms. Roland is a cool guy to play with and we had a lot of fun.

That was the last game of the first day of the event and we went to grab something to eat and we went together to a pub for couple of beers 😉

Tournaments are not only about playing the game 😉

It’s also about the social aspect 😉

Cheers!
Piotr
