Haley3 vs. Siege1 – Round 2 Barcelona Masters

Hello everyone!

In the second round of the Barcelona Masters I had a pleasure to play against Sergi, a fellow Cygnar player. At least in this case we were both sure that Cygnar will win ๐Ÿ˜‰ Since Sergi had both lists entirely immune to electricity I was sure that Nemo3 wasn’t the best choice. Sergi decided to take Siege1, probably anticipating plenty of clouds ๐Ÿ˜‰ and I opted for Haley3 and recently painted Gravediggers!

Sergi’s Siege1 list:

Cygnar Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Storm Division

[Brisbane 1] Major Markus “Siege” Brisbane [+28]
– Firefly [8]
– Firefly [8]
– Triumph [18]
– Squire [0(5)]
Journeyman Warcaster [0(4)]
– Charger [9]
Stormsmith Stormcaller (3) [0(5)]
Storm Lances (min) [12]
Storm Lances (min) [12]
Storm Strider [18]
Storm Strider [18]

My rather classic Haley3 list:

[Haley 3] Major Prime Victoria Haley [+25]
– Ironclad [12]
– Thorn [13]
Captain Maxwell Finn [0(6)]
Commander Anson Hitch [4]
Patrol Dog [2]
Ragman [4]
Trench Buster [0(5)]
Trench Buster [0(5)]
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen [10]
Trencher Commandos (min) [10]
– Trencher Commando Officer [4]
– Trencher Commando Scattergunner (1) [2]
Trencher Express Team [5]
Trencher Infantry (min) [10]
– Trencher Infantry Rifle Grenadier (1) [2]
Trencher Long Gunners (max) [18]
– Trencher Long Gunner Officer [4]

We played Spread the Net.

Deployment

I won the roll and decided to go first what in that match up could turn out to be important. Sergi took the other side and forced me to play with a burning forest on my side.

I deployed my main forces in the center of the board, Busters on the sides of a Trencher Long Gunner core. Thorn was on the left, Ironclad on the right, Haley in the middle. Later on I deployed Commandos on the left, facing the distant rectangular zone. Trenchers were dug in in the middle aiming to put a sweet cloud wall in the following turns.

Sergi put his Striders on the sides, Siege with his battle group in the middle between them and Lances on the flanks.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

The only thing I needed to keep in mind in the first round was to stay outside 19″ from Striders. I decided not to put a cloud wall and gain some terrain instead. Commandos ran forward fearlessly but I had to respect the threat ranges. I wanted to avoid finding myself in melee at the begining of next round ๐Ÿ˜‰ I tried not to get stuck in the middle, it is crucial with Haley3. Obviously I put Past and Future Haley into the game and cast Tactical Supremacy on Trenchers. They advanced and dug in.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Sergi advanced cautiously forward and created sort of Brisbane fort in the middle of the board with models inside the Fox Hole. Both Striders moved forward but kept safe distance. Lances tried to stay outside of my threat ranges.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

I couldn’t do anything better but advance, put cloud wall and wait for what Sergi would do. I kept all of my models outside of any shooting threat ranges, they were either stealthed or behind a cloud. I waited patiently for what was to come.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

Sergi engaged my models with Lances on the flanks. Additionally, one of the Fireflies ran forward to limit the space where I could move and shoot. Triumph and Siege killed some of my models. I had to shield guard one of the Strider’s shots (otherwise it would disrupt Thorn) what sadly killed the left Buster.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

Well, I was sure I wasn’t able to continue the attrition game, as there was no way to remove both Striders that turn, but there was another solution. I went for the Caster Kill. Thorn ran forward and I found an angle to see Triumph. Past Haley cast Force Hammer and slammed him against Brisbane, main Haley did that again, just in case I would need that additional damage and Future Haley finished the job. The angle is not visible on the photos below as we were discussing what could be done to prevent me from doing that. As a back up plan I had Thrall that Alexia put into play to charge Brisbane should Haley3 assassination fail. I had also couple of TLGs and Ironclad ready to disengage Express Team that was ready to shoot.

Round 3 Turn 1

Afterthoughts

All in all I believe that is a dificult match up for Haley3 as long as Siege is not getting killed. Lightnings alone are able to absolutely fry my entire army in a single turn. It’s crazy how easily Striders can get the job done. Additionally, Mage Sight essentialy makes his battle group immune to my cloud wall. Tiumph is great in such situations in sniping important solos and forcing me to play safe with little Haleys.

I was counting on the assassination all the time and fortunately I got it. After the game we exchanged Cygnar buckets of salt as a sign of friendship ;P and discussed how Cygnar feels in meta in our countries. It’s always great fun to talk to a fellow Swan, to share opinions and to complain together ๐Ÿ˜‰

That was the second round of Barcelona Masters. In the next round I was to face Skorne again… and that wasn’t the last Skorne that day ๐Ÿ˜›

Here you have a couple of photos of my still unfinished Gravediggers.

Cheers,
Piotr
