Harvesting Cephalyx

Today my Grymkin decided that they want to eat some Cephalyx. Strange taste on their part, but who am I to judge eating KFC at this very moment.

Operating Theater was led by Torres, who recently bought Cephalyx army and wanted to check how it performs. The list was as follows:

Mercenary Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Operating Theater

[Thexus 1] Exulon Thexus [+29]
– Wrecker [14]
– Wrecker [14] Cephalyx Agitator [3]
Cephalyx Agitator [3]
Machine Wraith [2]
Machine Wraith [2]
Cephalyx Mind Bender & Drudges (min) [7]
Cephalyx Mind Bender & Drudges (max) [11]
Cephalyx Mind Bender & Drudges (max) [11]
Cephalyx Mind Slaver & Drudges (max) [12]
Cephalyx Mind Slaver & Drudges (max) [12]
Cephalyx Mind Slaver & Drudges (max) [12]
Cephalyx Overlords [0(8)]
Cephalyx Overlords [0(8)]

I chose to slightly change my latest list by removing Baron Toungelick and Lady Rose (they sound like a nice couple from British aristocracy, do they not?) and using Rattler instead.

Grymkin Army – 75/75 points
[Theme] Dark Menagerie

[Dreamer 1] The Dreamer [+28]
– Cage Rager [14]
– Clockatrice [13]
– Clockatrice [13]
– Crabbit [0(-)]
– Crabbit [0(-)]
– Gorehound [6]
– Gorehound [6]
– Rattler [8]
– Skin & Moans [15]
– Skin & Moans [15]
Gremlin Swarm [0(3)]

Gremlin Swarm [0(3)]
Gremlin Swarm [0(3)]
Death Knell [13]

I won the starting roll and deployed everything around Death Knell. Gorehounds were on both flanks, as far as possible, to make use of their extended control range. Torres deployed his huge horde of infantry utilizing most of the deployment zone. First turn was quite boring and standard for me, Everything except Dreamer ran forward, and my Warlock cast Mirage on Rattler and Artifice of Deviation between my forces and mass of Drudges.

Cephalyx ran forward, bearing in mind to stay outside the threat range of Rattler. If that beast would start to grind those Drudges the game would be over pretty soon.

dav

Of course I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t try to do that anyway. I moved Cage Rager so he was 8 inches from one of Drudges and 6 inches from Gorehound. Then Dreamer cast Rager’s animus on Gorehound and tried to cast Abyssal Gate on one of Drudges. Even though I boosted after the roll thanks to Future Sight I couldn’t aim properly. Shame. Gorehound ate Machine Wraith and sprinted forward, second Gorehound ate one Drudge and also sprinted. Clockatrices charged and sprayed few Drudges thanks to their assault rule. Some Gremlin Swarms ran forward to mess some charge lines up, and rest of my army just repositioned a bit for the next turn.

dav

Of course I forgot about that one unit waiting in Ambush. Playing with Jaws of the Wolf made made me forget about such nuances.

No, Coca Cola is not a sponsor of this blog. But I would like that, I drink a lot of that thing. After some initial moves I used Labyrinth arcana, limiting the Cephalyx movement. Ambushing unit and one Wrecker managed to kill my Cage Rager, the unit on my right flank killed Gorehound (the poor dog did his job of delaying my enemies), and the rest of the army began hard and pointless work of killing Clockatrices. Thexus feated (too soon IMO). No points scored.

I knew that killing all that Drudges without Rattler is almost impossible, at least before they kill all my beasts. I’ve decided to clear the left zone to begin scoring points. To do that I had to kill two Drudges from blue unit (the one that killed Rager), Wrecker and two drudges on further end of the zone. My two Crabbits killed three “blue” guys, then Death Knell gave Skin & Moans some dead bodies, and the beast walked towards Wrecker, killing him with four attacks. The remaining Drudges that were contesting the zone got killed by my Clockatrice. On left flank Clockatrice and second Skin & Moans killed several Drudges, but were unable to clear the zone (one Drudge and Wraith remained). Had I played better with Dreamer, she would kill Wraith, and I would be able to finish that final Drudge and score second and third point. My bad, I must write on my hand “play better” before my next game. 1:0 for Grymkin.

Next turn was so intense, I even forgot taking pictures. Torres finally managed to kill one of my chickens (one unit charging, one unit spraying, Wrecker charging and Thexus finally charging. What a mess. Then I lost my “right” Skin and Moans, two Swarms, second Gorehound and Rattler. Problem for my oponent was that I easily cleared the left zone, managed to clear the right one thanks to Clockatrice, and scored my flag. 4:0 for Grymkin.

Torres knew that if I score even one more point he’s screwed. He ran everything to contest both zones and my flag, but couldn’t score anything. I could of course try to kill all that models in either zone, but I chose simplier way. Clockatrice accepted single freestrike and charged the objective.

dav

Three or four attacks later the objective was destroyed. 5:0 for Grymkin. Good game!

This picture shows two important things. First is Clockatrice demolishing the objective. Second is my Phantasm. The only one I’d put on the table. I don’t know how many games I have to play to start remembering about those guys. Mea culpa.

After this game (and five before using a bit different list) I think that the squad is quite solid, there won’t be any changes I can think of. Only things I have to do are to paint all the models and to learn how to play them properly šŸ™‚
