We played Recon II.

Deployment

Jakub won the roll and without hesitation decided to take the first turn. He deployed his caster in the middle, between light jacks and couple of solo. His heavies were deployed closer to the right zone, cavalry on the flanks. Idrians took left side, Errants took right side.

I deployed my firing squad in a wide line, trying to fit my mechanics between Hunters. Kara, Lynus&Edrea, Caine0 and Ace in the middle.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

Jakub decided to use terrain to his advantage and hid a considerable part of his army behind a forest or a building in the middle. Some Idrians took cover on the hill.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

After hesitating a bit, I decided that it is not the best moment for my feat, as most of important models are outside my line of sight or are simply too far. I positioned my models outside of enemy threat ranges and shot at whatever was in my range killing few Idrians.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

Jakub decided to shorten the distance between us and swarmed the middle of the board hoping that I wouldn’t be able to kill all those models. In fact, that put me in a very difficult situation. I had to prioritize targets and attempt to slow down the rest. Jakub killed only one or two mechanics.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

I had more targets that I would have liked to. I prioritized heavy cavalry and that heavy jack standing there in front of my lines. That was the moment when Kara used her feat and opened fire. With help of all those guns I managed to get rid of all Vengers in the middle, heavy warjack closest to my models. Most of the Errants died in the process, Trick Shots and some shots that I didn’t have enough focus to boost helped a bit ; ) that’s zero waste approach. Everything went smoothly, only if not that last Venger on the left. I tried to shot him once or twice, but missed. One shot left him on one box… And the other Hunter didn’t manage to hurt him more with his melee. I moved the other Hunter, but he missed too. Then I noticed that I left a straight line to Kara Sloan. That shouldn’t have happened. I didn’t notice that only until Jakub’s turn.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

Well, there was nothing more Jakub needed to do but take the opportunity I presented him with my last jack’s placement. My only hope was that he would die to a free strike… that I missed : P Kara was already knocked down by Force Hammer arced through an arc node. Well… one mistake cost me the game.

Round 3 Turn 1

Afterthoughts

Apart from that last movement, everything went as planned and to be honest, I was satisfied with how the list worked. That was a simple mistake I should avoided and all in all it didn’t spoil the way I perceived the list. Placing that Hunter 1 or 2 inches south would be enough, and I believe the game would be finished in a turn or two as I had huge attrition lead. On the side note, this Venger survived way too much.

A great game and a valuable lesson – look at the table!

Cheers,
Piotr
