Nemo3 vs. Axis1 – Back to Electric Avenue

Hello everyone!

This time I was to face Krzysztof also known as Maximus, and his lovely looking Convergence army that needed only last, final touches. He is using alcohol-based metallic paints and I must admit it gives stunning effects!

Funny side story, I asked my fiancée to pick an army during the battle box sale and to my surprise she chose Convergence. Symmetric and elegant, as she said 😉 I would never guess.

Krzysztof has brought Axis and multiple warjacks. I have finally decided what was to be my pair to Gravediggers Siege2 list. I choose Nemo3.

My N3MO list:

Cygnar Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Heavy Metal

[Nemo 3] Artificer General Nemo [+25]
– Firefly [8]
– Firefly [8]
– Thunderhead [20]
– Squire [0(5)]
Captain Arlan Strangewayes [0(4)]
Journeyman Lieutenant Allister Caine [0(5)]
– Ace [10]
Journeyman Warcaster [4]
– Firefly [8]
Field Mechaniks (min) [3]
Field Mechaniks (min) [3]
Storm Strider [18]
Storm Strider [18]

This list has overwhelming fire-(or rather electrical)-power. Even after being nerfed it can still deal considerable amount of damage to models a little bit closer to my caster as compared to the past. I don’t find this nerf to be as terrible as people tend to think. Electroleaps are still a powerful tool that can somewhat surprise enemies not used to play vs Cygnar. Especially in Poland where Cygnar went extinct for a year 😛 I believe this list can be a great answer to the meta benders lists (maybe excluding judicators). Bear in mind that those games were part of my preparations to the Polish Team Championship, so I build this pair having in mind that probably I will be able to dodge the worst match ups.

Krzysztof’s Axis1 list:

Convergence Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Destruction Initiative

[Axis 1] Axis, the Harmonic Enforcer [+30]
– Cipher [16]
– Corollary [6]
– Galvanizer [5]
– Galvanizer [5]
– Galvanizer [5]
– Inverter [15]
– Inverter [15]
– Inverter [15]
Elimination Servitors [0(3)]
Elimination Servitors [0(3)]
Elimination Servitors [0(3)]
Reflex Servitors [0(4)]
Reflex Servitors [0(4)]
Optifex Directive [4]
Transfinite Emergence Projector [19]

This list has more than enough of shield guards. That was going to be my main concern, oh, and counter charges on everything. The sooner I would get rid of shield guards the better. I was hoping that e-leaps would help me or at least force Krzysztof to take unfavourable positions. Axis has a couple of tricks but fortunately thanks to Magnetic Field my ‘jacks weren’t prone to Bulldoze or Battering Ram.

We played Spread the Net.

Deployment

Krzysztof won the roll and decided to be the first player. I got to pick the side and I decided on taking the one, where flag was hidden behind the building this way preventing Krzysztof from contesting it. By that point, I didn’t realised that it might turn against me, since the zone was protected by the same building. Krzystof deployed his scary battle engine and a couple of light ‘jacks on the right flank, opposite to my right rectangular zone. Heavy warjacks concentrated on the other side. All of his little floating shield guards had advance deployment and begun the game dug in.

I deployed both battle engines and mechanics on the flanks, Nemo, 3 FireFlies and Thunderhead in the middle. Ace was deployed on the left flank.

Deployment

Round 1

Convergence advanced cautiously, respecting my long threat ranges. Probes advanced forward and dug in. Krzysztof remembered to keep them 4” away from each other. One of the jacks shot twice and placed 2 4”AoE of rough terrain ahead of me.

I decided to get rid of as many shield guards as possible. I have managed to destroy few, since I couldn’t hit in most cases.

Round 1

Round 2 Turn 1

Krzysztof advanced slowly but surely. His army was getting closer and closer. He made sure not to give me any easy targets and kept his shield guards close to his models. In case I wanted to feat, I would have to get rid of them first to deal damage to warjacks. Somehow Krzysztof found a way and my right Firefly got seriously damaged.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

In my turn, I needed to feat to start gaining an attrition advantage. I had to apply Firefly’s bonus without giving him opportunity to countercharge, so left Firefly just charged in. Later, Caine0 and Ace pushed the engaged Inverter out from the engagement, so I would be able to hit it easier. Left battle engine and Thunderhead made sure that the closest ‘jack will be zapped to death. I dealt additional damage to the other ‘jack too. On the other flank second battle engine and Firefly managed to remove one light jack and deal damage to another Inverter. The seriously damaged Firefly just hid in the forest, so he wouldn’t be that easy to remove. Overall, I managed to kill one warjack and deal considerable damage to the others. I scored 2 points, 1 on my flag and the other in my rectangular zone. Krzysztof scored one point on his flag.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

In his turn, Krzysztof easily cleared his rectangular zone and contested my flag with his heavy warjack. He also found a way to get to that nasty Firefly and smashed him to death. Battle engine got closer to me and sprayed couple of times. Fortunately, Storm Strider was too far to be in danger. Sadly, I was starting to fall back both in attrition and in scenario game. Krzysztof scored 3 points and came ahead with 4 points to my 3.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

I still had 3 heavy warjacks and a battle engine to deal with. I considered the latter to be the biggest threat and I wanted to make sure that it will be gone by the end of my turn. I have decided that it would be my feat turn. Nemo feated and shot at TEP. I also had to withdraw a bit in case it would survive. Later, Storm Strider charged in and caused quite a bit of damage. Firefly approached TEP so the other Storm Strider could shoot at it but I couldn’t get enough electro leaps to get rid of the floating shield guards. At the end, Thunderhead moved in, used his pulse and removed one Inverter. With his additional shoot he also killed the battle engine. Unfortunately, measuring all those counter charge ranges and rolling damage for electro leaps is time consuming and I was really low on clock. As Krzysztof was too. I haven’t noticed that my Storm Strider is a 1mm away from the zone, but Krzysztof agreed to adjust its position, otherwise he would just kill Thead and win on scenario. Sadly, I wasn’t able to contest his rectangular zone, because of that nasty building that was supposed to help me 😛 Caine0 and Ace got hit by the 4” AoE in previous turn that was a rough terrain and obviously I forgot that Ace has pathfinder. I tried to kill the probe, but I failed… We both scored 1 point (as I couldn’t clear my rectangular zone), 3:5 in CoC’s advantage.

Round 3 Turn 2

Round 4 Turn 1

Since Krzysztof allowed me to adjust battle engine’s position we decided to omit the time and play it out. Inverter dealt with the left Strider, the other got deeper into the woods, so it would be more difficult to get rid of him. He also cleared his flag and secured another point. 3:7 in his favour.

Round 4 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 2

That definitely wasn’t looking good. I had to find a way to stay in game. Thead easily killed the left Inverter. Mechanics finally got to contest the opposite zone. I think Ace should have gone there too, but I think he had to shoot at something to finish it off, otherwise I would score more points. I also cleared Krzysztof’s flag and contested it with Firefly. It was 7 to 4. I should have played that turn better.

Round 4 Turn 2

Round 5

All Krzysztof had to do in order to get 5 points advantage over me was to contest my flag, kill 1 mechanic and score there with Axis, kill Firefly in order to score on his flag. He did with ease. We called it a game and shook hands, this time CoC had the upper hand.

Round 5

Afterthoughts

That was an intense game to the last second, and even more 😉 Scenario wise that wasn’t my best performance, and Krzysztof took an advantage from my mistakes. Initially, the building that was supposed to give me the edge, was instead the cause of my failure (I have to blame something, ok? 😛 ). I basically lost the game in round 3 when I didn’t contest the rectangular zone. Not contesting only the flag would probably be still winnable but giving free point like that was a disaster.

Nemo3 list has an incredible damage output but has to be played carefully scenario wise. I don’t have many pieces that I can sacrifice. I need to improve that for sure, especially on quick scenarios like Spread the Net.

I was totally convinced that Nemo3 is the way to go, especially against meta that we have in Poland, not mentioning team environment, where I hopefully can dodge the worst match ups (like Grymkin for instance). I just need more games with that list.

Thank you, Krzysztof, for that exciting game!

The next game I played against double Judicators. Holy crap, how strong they are!

I just realised how long this post is, probably one of the longest. How long the way from Warsaw to Gdańsk is… 😉

Cheers!
Piotr
