Nemo3 vs. Wurmwood1 – Round 5 Bacelona Masters

Hello everyone!

I’m sorry for the delay, I have lots of things going around right now and I just couldn’t find enough time and motivation to write more reports. Believe me or not, but it’s 33°C right now in Warsaw and I could boil an egg on my laptop 😛 so it’s even harder to write anything. Anyways, that’s my last battle in Barcelona. In the very last round I got to play against Marvin, a great guy I talked to for a bit during the Saturday’s afterparty 😉 Sadly, that was going to be our last game that weekend, since there were only two players still undefeated at this point. I decided on taking Nemo3 as I believed he was the safest option against Tharns. To my surprise Marvin decided on taking Wurmwood, who was prone to Siege’s Mage Sight. We were to play Nemo3 vs. Wurmwood, though.

Marvin’s Wurmwood list:

Circle Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] The Devourer’s Host

[Wurmwood 1] Wurmwood, Tree of Fate [+27]
– Feral Warpwolf [16]
– Ghetorix [19]
Lord of the Feast [0(6)]
Tharn Ravager Shaman [4]
Tharn Wolf Rider Champion [0(7)]
Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron [5]
Bríghid & Caul [7]
Shifting Stones [3]
Tharn Bloodweavers [8]
Tharn Ravagers (max) [15]
– Tharn Ravager Chieftain [5]
Tharn Ravagers (max) [15]
– Tharn Ravager Chieftain [5]

My Nemo3 list:

Cygnar Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Heavy Metal

[Nemo 3] Artificer General Nemo [+25]
– Firefly [8]
– Firefly [8]
– Thunderhead [20]
– Squire [0(5)]
Captain Arlan Strangewayes [0(4)]
Journeyman Lieutenant Allister Caine [0(5)]
– Ace [10]
Journeyman Warcaster [4]
– Firefly [8]
Field Mechaniks (min) [3]
Field Mechaniks (min) [3]
Storm Strider [18]
Storm Strider [18]

My plan was not to get assassinated by LotF, kill Cassius if possible and zap anything that would get too close, simple as that.

We played Mirrage.

Hola Marvin 😉

Deployment

I cannot recall who won the roll, but I was first to deploy my models and I did it in a usual way – Striders on the sides, stuff in the middle and Ace on the left flank.

Marvin deployed his army centrally with Cassius and the Tree in the very middle of his Advance Deployment.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

I ran everything forward and put crucial upkeeps on my models. Especially Magnetic Field could be useful, since Hellmouths was one of Circle’s options. I kept my models outside of any threat ranges.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Marvin decided on not going too far forward, he preferred a conservative approach and prepared for the next turn. He respected most of my threat ranges and was hoping for the deciding blow on his next turn.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

After measuring carefully I figured out that Cassius is within electro leap range. Taking him down and one of the Shifting Stones would probably grant me a huge advantage early on. Additionaly, in case I would be able to kill LotF, that would most likely take the assassination option out of the equation. Sadly, I couldn’t zap the nasty bug, even with my feat on! Fortunately, I managed to kill both Cassius and a Shifting Stone, some Tharns on the right flank, Pureblood and Brighid, what removed Prey. This move made Wurmwood very sad, with no teleport options there was no way to pop his feat effectively. The only thing I was worried about was LotF and his Raven. I made a fort Nemo and hoped he wouldn’t be able to find a landing spot.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

Circle took revenge and killed one of the Engines and one of the Fireflies. Marvin also scored one point on leftmost flag which I couldn’t contest effectively. Also, Ace got outflanked by ambushed Blood weavers. 1:0 in Orboros favour.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

That’s one of the moments that I had THead for. He was standing right in front of a bunch of multi wound infantry. There was nothing else to do, than stepping forward and killing whatever was there to be killed. All electrical attacks combined made sure that there won’t be too many Tharns left standing. Caine0 and Ace took care of Blood weavers, leaving none but one alive. I scored one point on my flag, 1:1.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

Marvin tried to kill as much damage as he could, but there were just not enough models left. 1:2 in my favour.

Round 3 Turn 2

Round 4 Turn 1

I cleared all of the zones and left just the Tree and the pot alive, 5:1 for Cygnar and I won the next turn.

Round 4 Turn 1

Afterthoughts

I got very lucky in the second turn. Being able of killing both the Shifting Stone and Cassius made my opponent’s game an uphill struggle. That was a very difficult spot from which continuing the game was surely challenging. Marvin didn’t surrender and unceasingly trying to find a way to win, that’s a spirit! The only way he could win was killing Nemo and I had to secure my caster no matter what, preferrably by killing anything that could threaten him. I also was very happy with how THead was able to clear the table. He killed a beast and then killed several Tharns. This is the reason I prefer him to Dynamo 😉

All in all, I finished 15/38 with 3 wins out of 5. I played against 3 Skornes, 1 Cygnar and 1 Circle. Well, next time I will be hoping for better variety of factions 😛 it definitely could go better, we will see what the future will bring. The tournament was great, as always whenever I go to Spain! Those guys are amazing! See you soon, tontos! 😀

The next weekend, right after this one, I took part in Kraków Masters, another interesting games to be described! I hope that I will find motivation to write more stuff and that the weather in Poland will get better 😛

Cheers,
Piotr
