Siege1 vs. Makeda2

Hello everyone!

I got to play against Makeda2 and I haven’t seen her on the table for some time. For that local tournament I took my Siege1 list (I can’t recall what was the other) and as soon as I saw what Paweł prepared for me, I was hoping that my electro leaps will be enough to finish those cats with 1hp left. At first glance, I thought it was a classic Makeda2 list, but then I noticed that both units of cavalry consisted of only 3 cats and, in addition to that, there were two units of Swordsmen. Despite their numbers I still was still afraid of Feroxes.

We played Mirage. To be fair, I was worried about contesting the distant flag and the opposite circular zone. I lacked models, apart from mechanics, that I could sacrifice easily

Paweł’s Makeda2 list:

Skorne Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Masters of War

[Makeda 2] Supreme Archdomina Makeda [+27]
– Basilisk Krea [7]
– Molik Karn [19]
Mortitheurge Willbreaker [0(4)]
Mortitheurge Willbreaker [0(4)]
Tyrant Rhadeim [9]
Farrow Valkyries [8]
Praetorian Ferox (min) [12]
Praetorian Ferox (min) [12]
Praetorian Swordsmen (max) [13]
– Praetorian Swordsman Officer & Standard [4]
Praetorian Swordsmen (max) [13]
– Praetorian Swordsman Officer & Standard [4]
Tyrant Commander & Standard Bearer [0(6)]

My Siege1 list:

Cygnar Army – 75 / 75 points
[Theme] Heavy Metal

[Brisbane 1] Major Markus “Siege” Brisbane [+28]
– Charger [9]
– Charger [9]
– Firefly [8]
– Triumph [18]
– Squire [0(5)]
Journeyman Lieutenant Allister Caine [0(5)]
– Ace [10]
Journeyman Warcaster [0(4)]
– Firefly [8]
Lynus Wesselbaum & Edrea Lloryrr [5]
Storm Strider [18]
Storm Strider [18]

I wanted to test an idea and I have changed the list a bit. I added Lynus & Edrea in order to be able to choose columns while shooting with Brisbane.

Deployment

Sadly, Paweł won the starting roll and decided to go first. I got to choose the side. Somehow, I was pretty sure that it wouldn’t be me who was going to score first 😛 Paweł deployed his forces symmetrically, one unit of Swordsmen and Ferox on each side and battle group in the middle.

I deployed Engines on both sides facing those nasty cats, all the rest I deployed in between. I like how this list usually deploys itself : P I do not waste too much time.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

Paweł ran everything forward outside of my threat ranges obviously. Deflection cast to protect models just in case.

Round 1 Turn 2

I couldn’t go too far in order not to get charged, but reasonably deep into scenario to have a chance. I put FFE on Siege, Arcane Shield on the right Storm Strider and positioned my models to be able to fight off cats and what not.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

Paweł didn’t hesitate too much and decided to go all in. His models simply ran into my army. Makeda obviously used her feat. Swordsmen on the left ran and jammed Strider and Firefly. In the center couple of Ferox hid in the forest and rest ran into the other Strider. Swordsmen took position behind them

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

I had a tough nut to crack. Cats were a serious threat to my warcaster and I had to get rid of the in the first place. On the left flank I had to get rid of models blocking my movements first and then take care of those farther away. I began with Siege using his feat what would enable electro leaps to guarantee a kill. I managed to land several attacks despite high defensive, but Paweł was continuously passing tough checks, and that what didn’t pass Makeda maintained alive. That was genuinely frustrating, but I couldn’t do much about that. I had to just accept that and keep the dice rolling. When the dust settled, all but two cats were dead and part of Swordsmen on the left were gone. I didn’t have enough attacks to kill more models. 0:1 in Skorne’s favour.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

As I couldn’t kill enough enemy models Paweł had more than enough of resources to remove models he wanted. By killing Arcane Shielded Storm Strider, Firefly and Triumph he freed rightmost flag. Leftmost flag remained uncontested and Paweł could effortlessly score a point there. The only thing he had to do was to deliver Molik to my objective what with long charge range and side steps wasn’t too difficult. Molik removed the objective with couple of attacks and Paweł ended up scoring additional 4 points and we shook hands, 0:5 in Skorne’s favour.

Round 3 Turn 1

Afterthoughts

That was it. My army was simply to slow to keep up in this scenario against such a fast army. If only I could remove more models, then maybe I wouldn’t lose on the right flank that easily. Being a first player might have also helped. Also, in the critical turn, Paweł passed plenty of tough checks and with immunity to be knocked down it meant that I had to put even more effort to kill those models, usually with no effect.

Well, for quick scenarios like Mirage, or Bunker in SR2019, one need to be able to contest substantially, otherwise the game will look like this one, pretty one-sided and short : P having solos that you can afford to put in risk and score flags is also important. That’s why I’m thinking on how to fit Alexia2 to part of my lists ; )

Cheers,
Piotr
