In the semifinals we played against Germany Waldkauz. I felt so excited, it was already a great success getting that far but obviously at that point we were focused on playing another round haha
Fortunately, I was paired against Circle Orboros (without Krueger2!), honestly, the only army in their team composition I could play against. I decided to play Siege1 and to my surprise Bernhard chose Mohsar over Wurmwood. I knew that the assassination threat is very serious, so I decided to play the game very conservative. I was sure my army could handle Tharns under Mohsar and the only threat was losing Siege to Mohsar teleporting right into his face.
Sadly, Bernhard felt really sick and couldn’t speak very well due to his sore throat.

We played Anarchy.
I think I won the roll and elected to go second. I chose the side where the flag was hidden behind the building.
Bernhard deployed his models on the other side. Tharn Blood Pack took the right side. Pureblood, Argus and the pot were placed in the middle, Mohsar and the Death Wolves on the right. Later, he deployed his advance deployment.
I deployed as usual, with almost all models between two battle engines.
Round 1 Turn 1
Bernhard’s models ran forward and stayed outside of my threat ranges. Mohsar placed two pillars next to my flag.
Round 1 Turn 2
Since I couldn’t reach his models with my attacks (well, Triumph could) I decided to play it slowly, and move most of my models just outside of his threat ranges. Siege placed a Fox Hole and I moved Firefly and Triumph there. Alexia created a Thrall. He ran forward and then I managed to one-shot Brigid with Ace’s Trick Shot (the Trall survived the shot though lol I rolled 1,1 on dmg). Caine and Jr Warcaster stayed far back in case one of the models would run forward and Mohsar would want to spray them to death. This time I remembered about the ambush too 😛
Round 2 Turn 1
Bernhard decided to play his turn conservatively. Bloodtrackers spread across the middle part of the table. Blood pack moved forward and shot couple of arrows at my Storm Strider. LotF stayed behind the house hoping for a better moment to go all in. Pureblood stayed next to LotF. The bigger Twin, Caul, stepped a little bit forward. Mohsar put a pillar in front of the building to cover his models. A Wolf Raider jumped into the cover and prepared for sneaky flanking maneuvers. A Gobber ran to capture the flag and to score a point next turn hopefully.
Round 2 Turn 2
I had so many targets and I had to prioritize what was the biggest threat at that moment. I had to get rid of Trackers in front of my army for sure. I had to contest the circular zones and to score a point on my flag, preventing Bernhard from scoring one on his flag. I figured out I do not need to bother killing models behind the building if only I position my models correctly. Triumph killed the pillar with his maintenance shot. I started with Anastasia getting out from Ambush and obviously failing to kill the Wolf Rider, she simply contested the left zone. Firefly moved forward, toed into the right zone and zapped more models. Rightmost Strider moved forward and shot twice, killing a handful of Trackers and Tharns. Ace with his Trick Shot killed two more Trackers. My left flank withdrew a little, because after hesitating for a moment whether I should move Strider forward or not, I realized that Pureblood has Ghost Walk and could charge my battle engine easily. I measured also LotF teleporting range and stayed outside of it. Charger in the middle finished one Death Wolf. Triumph killed the Gobber next to the flag. Junior recast Arcane Shield on Siege, just to be sure he is safe. Alexia created a Thrall who ran to score my flag. I scored one point, 1:0.
Round 3 Turn 1
My German opponent had a tough nut to crack, since his whole middle part evaporated. Bernhard decided to block my models with a total of 4 pillars first. On the right flank Tharns charged Firefly, to no effect. A solo approached the flag to score a point there. Models behind the building stepped forward to be able to threaten farther. I also lost a Thrall. The Wolf Rider killed Anastasia in revenge and Bernhard scored another point there, 1:2 in Circle’s favour.
Round 3 Turn 2
I knew that was going to be my feat turn. Triumph killed a solo with his maintenance shot. I started with Siege using his feat. He dealt 17dmg to Pureblood with an incredibly lucky roll. I missed LotF and Caul (as I didn’t want to spend more FOC) and Siege kept 3 FOC and had AS on him. Caine easily removed all 4 pillars with his Trick Shots. Charger with another lucky shot killed Pureblood to the box. Storm Strider charged Caul and killed him together with LotF, who died to a lucky electro leap (I needed a 9). My dice were really hot that turn. Strider then shot twice killing more models. Firefly killed a Tharn, who passed a tough check. Triumph finished him. Alexia created another Thrall who scored a point on my flag, 2:2.
Round 4 Turn 1
After my devastating turn Bernhard couldn’t do much. I killed way too many of his models and he was simply running out of models. His only hope was a Death Wolf charging in, getting close to Siege (thanks to Overtake) and teleporting Mohsar within melee range. He was short by a couple of mm, but even if he would be able to make it, I still had 3 foc and Arcane Shield on Brisbane, so he was more than safe.
Round 4 Turn 2
Triumph hit and rolled high enough to kill Mohsar and Bernhard decided to end the game right there, so we shook hands.
I managed to win this game mostly because I played it super cautiously. Overextending, spending too much FOC, or whatever else, and Mohsar would sit on Siege’s dead corpse within no time.
I knew that my opponent’s plan was to assassinate Siege with LotF, Mohsar etc. so I kept him far back, with 5 FOC almost the entire game. I measured everything carefully and made sure he was in a safe spot and I let my army handle his. Thanks to my lucky rolls it was way easier than it normally should be. Otherwise we would probably play a turn or two more and that would give me more opportunities to make a mistake.
Bernhard’s list perhaps doesn’t look as strong as other classic Circle lists at first, but believe me, the surprise factor can make a difference. Especially in the environment where everybody techs for the biggest meta-benders and tends to forget about the niche casters.
All in all, it was a very pleasant and clear game and I hope you feel now better, Bernhard. Being sick on WTC is no fun.
After the game, it turned out that we won 3:2 and for the first time my game actually made a difference! I was so happy and proud that I contributed towards our victory! And this is how we got to the finals of WTC!
Sadly, our friends from Poland South didn’t make it and we were going to play against fabulous Norway Munin. We will need to wait for the all-polish final till the next year ;P
