Deployment
Konrad won the starting roll and decided to go first. He deployed Skarre and his colossal centrally and his cavalry on both flanks. Later on he advance deployed 3 units of Thralls.
I deployed Stormstrider on the left and Nemo4 on the right with an intention to score the rectangular zone some time in the future. All the other models were deployed between the two huge bases. Well, apart of Caine’s Firefly and 2 mechanics on the right π and Glynn!

Round 1 Turn 1
Konrad moved everything forward and stayed outside of my carefully measured threat ranges. It was quite easy to predict what Konrad planned for the following round.

Round 1 Turn 2
I knew that Konrad wanted to jam my army under Skarre’s feat, so I had to keep some models away from the engagement to be able to free up my first line, that would then continue dealing damage to the rest of the enemy army. I kept Caine0, Siege and Thamarite Archon safe behind my front ranks. We moved back the central unit of Thralls, as they were a little bit too close π Triumph managed to kill one of them nevertheless. I forgot to cast any upkeep with Nemo, but on the other hand I wanted to keep him safe from any charges, so after all it wasn’t that bad. He summoned Trencher Buster. Firefly stepped in the rectangular zone. Alexia created a Thrall that stayed behind my lines to be able to charge in the next round. Caine cast FFE on Siege.

Round 2 Turn 1
Skarre feated obviously. Every model with a token that you can see below had +5 ARM/ +5 STR. Soulhunters on the left charged in and dealt some damage to my BE. Sepulcher shot a couple of shots too. After all the attacks he had, my BE survived on 1hp lol that was lucky! In the center only one Brute Thrall charged in to engage my heavy warjacks. On the right side, Soulhunters killed Firefly and engaged Nemo and Trencher Buster. It wasn’t that bad, I expected to be jammed more, but Konrad didn’t want to serve all his models on a plate and wanted to drag mi closer to the center I suppose.

Round 2 Turn 2
I started with Siege moving up and feating. He used Ground Pounder to kill 4 Soulhunters on the left that were placed a little bit too close to each other. I killed Brute Thrall that was engaging my heavies with Triumph’s maintenance shot I believe. I sent Mangler in to deal significant damage to Sepulcher (around half his dmg points). My barely alive BE stomped the last Soulhunter and killed some models with his range attacks. Thrall ran to capture my flag. On the right flank, Caine had to shot my own objective to remove models that were blocking my zone. Buster killed another Soulhunter and Thamarite Archon together with Nemo4 cleared my rectangular zone. Alexia created another Thrall that ran to contest enemy rectangular zone. I realized that after dealing such a disastrous blow, Konrad might go for Caster Kill, so I decided to put another 2 heavies between Siege and enemy models. Just in case Sepulcher felt appetite for warcasters. I scored my flag and rectangular zone, Konrad scored one point on his flag, 2:1.

Round 3 Turn 1
The game wasn’t over yet, as I used a lot of time in my turn and Konrad still had a lot of models left. Konrad easily removed my battle engine and Thrall contesting my flag and trivially wrecked Mangler. Defender and Triumph however stood their ground in the center. On the right side Brute Thralls charged and killed my objective. Konrad had a great turn and scored 4 points, 2:4 in his favour.

Round 3 Turn 2
In order to stay in the game I had to focus on scoring more scenario points and preventing Konrad from scoring his. I was ready to sacrifice Thamarite Archon to stop this from happening. First things first though π I still had a colossal in front of my army! I had to put a lot of resources to finish Sepulcher, Defender, Nemo, charging Glynn and probably something else managed to take him down. Alexia created another Thrall that contested enemy zone yet again. Buster and Caine shooting Nemo in the back killed with electro leaps the remaining models that were contesting my rectangular zone. Thamarite Archon flew above the battlefield all the way to contest enemy flag. I scored only one point, as I couldn’t clear my flag, 4:3 in Cryx favour.

Round 4 Turn 1
At this point, Konrad was running low on models and had to score points desperately to prolong the game and increase the chances of me clocking out ;D and I must tell you, the chances for that are never 0 haha Cryx managed to encircle my Archon, but failed to take him down. Skarre had to walk up and do it herself. This way, Cryx scored one point on the flag, 5:3.

Round 4 Turn 2
At the start of the turn I had only 5 min left, so I had to buck up. Siege moved up and removed a handful’s of Thralls with Ground Pounder. Buster assaulted Orrik, but failed to kill him. Triumph and Thrall warrior managed to take down the enemy objective. The last Arcane Mechanik moved into the circular zone and scored a point for me this way. I scored 3 points, 6:5 in my favour. At this point Konrad couldn’t stop me from winning, even with only 36 seconds left on the clock, as he simply didn’t have enough models, so we shook hands.

Afterthoughts
I created a buymeacoffee profile, where you can support me and contribute to development of this blog by buying me a “coffee”. Funds gathered this way will be used on blog maintenance and making more 3D terrain π
If anyone would like to do so, you can follow the link below. You can also leave a private message there. Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated!
I would like to thank Benoit, Samu, Krzysztof, Daniel RG and Endre for supporting me on buymeacoffee. It really means a lot to me! Thank you!
What a grind! I think that not killing the Battle Engine and underestimating Siege’s personal threat (I think Konrad forgot to spread his cav to prevent GP from taking that many casaulties) was the breaking point that allowed me to stay in the game. I managed to bounce back with my feat, scored some scenario points and continued grinding thralls down.
Thamarite Archon was the MVP. He killed plenty of enemy models and then contested the enemy flag when it was the most important. I’m not sure if I expressed that clearly enough in my report , but those second line models were what kept me in this game. If not for them (Archon, Caine, even Glynn and Buster) I wouldn’t be able to free up my damage dealers and I would get swamped and outnumbered by overwhelming waves of dead bodies.
In match ups like this it is crucial to monitor time and stay scenario relevant.
Thank you, Konrad, for a great game and see you next time!
Cheers,
Piotr
Good game… It was fun to read…
