Hello everyone!
I participated in a local tournament of 10 players, out of which 3 came from Poznan! So good to see friends that I haven’t seen for some time!
Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to create anything new, so I took lists that I already had in the app and that I was most familiar with – Stryker1 and Siege1.
In the first round I played against Kamil and his pretty Grymkin army! I didn’t feel ok with Siege playing either into Sacrifice or OW3 π so I decided to take Stryker1. Kamil didn’t feel comfortable with Old Witch 3 and took The Child.
Kamil’s The Child list:
Grymkin
[Theme] Dark Menagerie
[Child 1] The Child [+29]
– Cage Rager [13]
– Clockatrice [13]

Lady Karianna Rose [3]
Dread Rots (min) [7]

This game, Kamil took Labyrinth and Sacrifice as his Arcanas.
My Stryker1 list:

[Theme] Flame in the Darkness
[Stryker 1] Commander Coleman Stryker [+30]
– Blockader [32]
Grand Master Gabriel Throne [7]
Hermit of Henge Hold [0(5)]
Lieutenant Allison Jakes [0(4)]
– Gallant [17]
Morrowan Archon [8]
Ragman [3]

Thamarite Archon [9]
Field Mechaniks (min) [2]
Precursor Knights (max) [14]
– Morrowan Battle Priest (2) [4]
– Precursor Knight Officer & Standard [0(4)]
In previous variant of that list I had a Thamarite Advocate, but I liked the idea of Ragman in Daniel’s list from VTC, so I took him instead π
Before I go to the bat rep I’d like to show you the 2.5D tables we were playing on π There were 4 thematic tables and 1 flat one for those, who don’t like the additional dimension π
Deployment
Unfortunately, I lost the starting roll (spoiler alert: I lost all of them that day) and had to go second. The palm trees and ship wreck formed a narrow bottleneck passage.
Kamil placed his models fairly symmetrically. He placed 2 Defiled Archons, 2 Gremlin Swarms, a Clockatrice and a Skin&Moans on each flank. The Child, the battle engine and Cage Rager were placed in the center.
I had to take a second to think were I would like Blockader to be within 2-3 turns. I was afraid that the ship wreck (an impassable terrain) would block my most precious model from joining in the fight for several turns and force me to dance around it, so I decided to put him in the middle. The thing I was still concerned about was the objective placement. I was afraid, that at some point in the game I was going to be forced to place him either in front of it or behind it and I didn’t like that at all. I also had to figure out where to put PKs, since Blockader was going to take the center. I opted for the right side – that was the side I wanted to score points in. In a hindsight, I thought the wreck would protect my infantry models from enemy beasts. In the end it turned out to protect beasts from my infantry π
I decided on taking anti KD objective, as I lost to Force hammer in the face a couple of times lately. I totally forgot about the rough terrain Defiled Archons can produce. Honorable mention for Kamil, who was kind enough to offer me to change the objective during the game, but I refused as I thought that wouldn’t be fair.

Round 1 Turn 1
Kamil ran everything forward, as far as he could to stay outside of threat range of Thamarite Archon with Snipe, 23″ that is.

Round 1 Turn 2
Stryker cast Blur on PKs, Snipe on left Thamarite Archon and Arcane Shield on himself, as I was afraid I might need it later on. Casting AS on Blockader would be pointless, as Kamil had easy access to Wraith bane in the center, and I just didn’t want Stryker to get damaged with random attacks. PKs got Tough from Gabriel and ran forward. Blockader took a position in the center. Left Thamarite Archon ran behind the cloud and grabbed arrows to shoot next turn. The other two Archons ran to the right. Jakes cast Side kick on Gallant. Said jack ran toward the rectangular zone. I forgot to move Ragman, Kamil allowed me to do it later, what a kind guy, isn’t he? π

Round 2 Turn 1
Kamil decided not to engage, yet. He just took the advantage of the terrain, he regrouped his army and prepared his positions for the next turn. I had no targets for charging Blockader or Gallant, but in the meantime I was forced to use my feat in the next turn, very clever. Defiled Archons placed two 5″ AoE of rough terrain, one in the middle and one in the rightmost zone. Clockatrice on the left tried to hit Thamarite Archon, but failed.

Round 2 Turn 2
I didn’t feel comfortable with going all in this turn, but honestly, I didn’t feel there was any other option. Otherwise, I would be pushed out from the zones and outscored on scenario within 2 turns. In case I would use my feat more defensively and left most of my army on the edge of the zones, I think I would get nothing in return. Grymkin would simple step back and wait it out. This way I would get nothing in return. I started with Thamarite Archon killing one of the Gremlin Swarms on the left. Then I targeted Dread Roots to limit Kamli’s ability to score points in that zone, as I obviously wanted to keep him from getting points there. Sadly, he passed 2 out of 3 tough checks and I finished killing only one. Stryker moved up and cycled Snipe on the other Thamarite Archon. Oh, he also used his feat π In the center, Blockader charged and killed the objective, the only model I could charge. Gallant and Hermit moved behind him. I also kept Mechanics close by, in case my colossal would miraculously survive. On the right, the other Thamarite Archon killed both Gremlin Swarms. PKs moved forward in Shield Wall. Gabriel gave them Tough. Morrowan Archon ran behind the rock, toward right side. I scored one point, 1:0.
Blockader is supposed to block things, right? (I wrote down the joke, as I didn’t want to forget putting it to the bat rep hahaha sorry)

Round 3 Turn 1
That’s the turn, where the terrain advantage and my inability to pick the right objective were exposed. The impassable terrain that formed the narrow passage together with the forest turned against me and allowed Grymkin beasts to group up in the middle. Kamil needed all 3 of his heavy hitters to finish Blockader, but that was rather inevitable. Clockatrice missed Thamarite Archon on the left, what allowed me to dodge away and keep contesting the zone. Clockatrice on the right killed only one PK. Defiled Archons created two huge rough terrain patches in the middle that were going to significantly limit my maneuverability next turn. The score remained 1:0 to my advantage.

Round 3 Turn 2
Sadly, the forces I prepared for the counter attack were scattered and blocked by the terrain. Gabriel gave pathfinder to PKs. Hermit moved up and used his -2ARM aura. Ragman moved forward and used his Death field. PKs used their mini-feat and charged forward. Effective PS 16 and weapon master is a lot, but sadly I didn’t have enough models in the middle to deal as much damage as I wanted to. On the right side however, I had enough models to body-block Clockatrice, what allowed me to severely damage it. Thamarite Archon managed to finish it with a crazy high roll. Morrowan Archon joined the middle part and dealt some damage to Cage Rager. Thamarite Archon on the left killed the last Gremlin Swarm and continued targeting those nasty pumpkins, but they didn’t want to die! Kamil passed all tough checks again. At this point I already could say, that this game, on both sides, was defined by Archons. The amount of work they were able to do is astounding. Stryker ran to the right zone and I scored another point, 2:0. However, the score was in my favour, I knew it was going to end soon π

Round 4 Turn 1
With all the forces Kamil had left he easily killed the objective and most of my models in the rectangular zone and finally managed to kill the nasty Thamarite Archon on the left. You should see the relief on his face when Thamarchon died finally hahaha The Death Knell contested the rightmost zone. Kamil killed the objective and scored the left zone, 2:2.

Round 4 Turn 2
Kamil had a significant advantage and there was no way he was going to clock himself. After I failed to kill either Death Knell or Cage Rager I conceded and we shook hands.

Afterthoughts

I created a buymeacoffee profile, where you can support me and contribute to development of this blog by buying me a “coffee”. Funds gathered this way will be used on blog maintenance and making more 3D terrain π
If anyone would like to do so, you can follow the link below. You can also leave a private message there. Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated!
I would like to thank Benoit, Samu, Krzysztof, Daniel RG and Endre for supporting me on buymeacoffee. It really means a lot to me! Thank you!
Thanks to your support I managed to buy cool new terrain I used to organize the tournament!
What a cool game! Thank you, Kamil, for it and I hope we will have a chance for a rematch soon! π
If it comes for the game, we concluded that my list was missing one small PK unit. I should reconsider taking one, as we both felt that they would do great on the left side. Also, in my opinion, the terrain we played on favoured Grymkin in that match up. Having a colossal in the list with an impassable terrain on the middle of the board is a drawback. Guess who was setting up all the tables for the tournament? π
If only I took the pathfinder objective, Gallant would be able to join the party in the middle (depends on my order of activation, as Kamil would most certainly use Labyrinth in that case). I couldn’t move Gallant closer to the left side, as Clockatrice would charge him. Mistakes were made, but we had fun nevertheless and that’s the point, right? π
What do you think I could do differently? Was putting Blockader in the middle a mistake, or should I use my feat differently? I’m curious what you have to say π
That was the first round of the local tournament. I was about to face another great player – Kondzioro and his fun Cryx list!
Cheers,
Piotr
