Vayl1 vs Aurora1 – Round 3 – Winged Hazard

Hello everyone!

It is the third and the last game I played on that tournament. In the tournament’s final I faced Adam and his Convergence of Cyriss. Last time we played I was incredibly lucky, this time I was hoping for an exciting game and a great rematch! Adam decided to take Aurora1, I took Vayl1 yet again and here we go!

Ah, and I’d like to apologize for such long breaks between bat reps, but it is tough to find enough hobby time with a little baby on board, I hope you understand 😉

Deployment

I won the roll and decided to go first. I put my warbests somewhat centrally to be able to go either way. My main concern was lack of Pathfinder on Typhon, so he was to go around the crater for sure.

Adam deployed his heavy warjacks closer to the left side. Death Archons were put on both flanks. He also deployed a handful of angels in advance deployment.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

I ran everything forward. Vayl put Frost Field on Scythean. Blight Archon put Dragon’s Blood on Typhon and Crimson Balet on himself. Thagrosh cast Fog of War and used reroll mutation. Seraph stayed somewhere in the middle to be able to support all beasts with Slip Stream. Scythean ran forward on the right, Typhon in the middle, Angelius on the left. I kept all the models outside of charging range, for now :p Reak jumped next to the house on the left flank.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Adam rushed 2 units forward and kept the rest in the reserve. Gaspy4 and Aurora’s battle group stayed behind his front lines. Death Archon flew behind the tower on the right 😉 Aurora cast Arcane Might on herself and Admonition on one of the warjacks.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

I decided to use Vayl’s feat this turn and go for the front lines. I also wanted to get rid of the Death Archon on the right as it is always a serious threat. Thagrosh took free animus this turn and placed Scythean forward. Mechanoshredder gave him his animus. Typhon cleared way with his sprays and Scythean charged and killed a couple of enemy models and Death Archon. Oh, Typhon also killed two Negation Angels in the trench with a couple of lucky unboosted rolls 😉 I was quite happy with the initial engagement, especially killing Death Archon. It was time for Convergence to retaliate and I was really curious how will it work out for Adam.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

I kept most of my damage dealers quite far from Convergence’s models, so Adam wouldn’t be able to kill them that easy. Aurora used her feat and cast Aerogenesis speeding up her warrior models. Gaspy4 managed to charge Typhon, but left him on a couple of boxes, lucky me 😉 Hermit walked up and used -2ARM bubble. Angels charged all across the board and managed to kill Seraph and other perhaps less important models. Fortunately, Reak stayed alive, but I believe he was just outside the zone (for some reason?). In general, I was in a pretty good spot and I was looking forward to the next round. Adam scored 2 points, 0:2.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

Unfortunately, I think I forgot to take a photo in that round.

I managed to kill the contesting models next to my flag and all the Angels nearby. Typhon and Scythean took care of the whole right flank killing Gaspy4, one Conservator and an objective. On the other side of the table, Ice Witches and Hex Hunters cleared the way, hex bolted Hermit 😉 and Angelius and Blight Archon charged into the circular zone. They managed to take another Death Archon and Conservator out. Reak jumped in the back lines, just to deal a little damage and annoy as much as possible. I scored 2 points, 2:2.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a solo close to the enemy flag, and what’s worse, I didn’t move any solo closer to that flag to be able to score a point the next round, ups.

Round 3 Turn 2

With the right flank totally gone Adam had few options left. He focused on the circular zone to kill as many models as he could and to force me to waste time on killing his models (I had only 2:30 min left). Unfortunately for CoC, most of my models in the zone survived, including 2 beasts and Blight Archon. Also, Adam wasn’t able to deny me points, so I scored one on the flag, 3:2 to my advantage.

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 1

I realized my mistake now and Thag0 ran closer to the enemy flag on the right to score it next round. Vayl moved to my flag. I moved models to the circular zone and finally killed Hermit. I didn’t have enough time and models to finish the last Conservator. I scored one point on my flag, 4:2.

Round 4 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 2

Adam continued chewing through my models in the circular zone and managed to finish Angelius and Blight Archon. The zone however remained contested. Adam scored a flag in the zone, I scored mine, 5:3.

Round 4 Turn 2

Round 5 Turn 1

I forgot to take a photo yet again, sorry guys 😉 I rushed with all the models I had to the circular zone. Ice witches, Mekanoshredder and even barely alive Typhon made their way to contest the zone and the flag. In the meantime, Thag0 and Vayl scored a point on the flags, 7:3 in Legion’s favour.

Round 5 Turn 2

Adam contested the flag closer to his edge of the board with Corollary. He couldn’t however clear the way to Vayl’s flag and there were just too many models in the circular zone to score a point there. He flipped the clock and I scored one point in his turn getting the 5 points advantage required to end the game. What a game! Adam had 36 seconds left, I had 3!

Round 5 Turn 1

Afterthoughts

I created a buymeacoffee profile, where you can support me and contribute to development of this blog by buying me a “coffee”. Funds gathered this way will be used on blog maintenance and making more 3D terrain 😉
If anyone would like to do so, you can follow the link below. You can also leave a private message there. Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated!

I would like to thank Benoit, Samu, KrzysztofDaniel RG and Endre for supporting me on buymeacoffee. It really means a lot to me! Thank you!

Ouuuu it was a long time since I managed to win a local tournament with Legion!

It came down to the wire, what a battle! It was one of those games where winning the flank decided on the fate of the game. CoC wasn’t able to recover after Round 3 and the scenario just snowballed. In fast paced scenarios like this with multiple scoring opportunities it is important to keep both flanks occupied and to contest enemy flags.

On a side note, I need to work on time management, as this is yet another time when I end the game with less time on the clock that I was comfortable with. A thing to improve 😉

Once again, thanks Adam for an interesting and exciting game!

Cheers,
Piotr
