After having to pause in Round 1 and a tough mirror match in Round 2 (HERE), the time of the final game of 35p tournament has come. In the last game I faced Bartek and his Protectorate army on a winter themed table. I decided to play Caine1 once again. I though I might need magical shooting against protectorate jacks and support of heavy hitting infantry. Barted decided to take Durst, so here we go.
Bartek’s Durst1 list:
[Theme] The Creator’s Might
[Durst 1] Anson Durst, Rock of the Faith [+28]
– Crusader
– Dervish
– Devout
– Vigilant
Menite Archon
Scrutator Potentate Severius [0(6)]
– Redeemer
Vassal Mechanik
Vassal of Menoth
Choir of Menoth (min)
My Caine1 list:
[Theme] Storm Division
[Caine 1] Lieutenant Allister Caine [+30]
– Reliant
– Stormclad
Lieutenant Gwen Keller
Savio Montero Acosta [0(6)]
Stormblade Captain
Alexia Ciannor & the Risen
Stormblade Infantry
– Stormblade Infantry Officer & Standard
– Stormblade Infantry Storm Gunner (1)
We played Asteroids.
Bartek won the roll and decided to go first. I chose the side with a trench in the middle.
Bartek deployed most of his forces on the left side of his deployment, Menite Archone, Dervish and Devout were deployed closed to the right.
I deployed Caine centrally, with Stormclad on the left and Reliant on the right. I deployed Stormblades and Alexia with Risen spread between other models. Acosta was deployed closer to the right side, SB Captain was deployed closer to the left.
Round 1 Turn 1
Everything ran forward, Menite Archon took a position near the crater on the right. Light warjacks were leading the army, heavy jack and support followed. Durst cast Hallowed Avenger on Crusader. Sevy0 cast Road to War.
Round 1 Turn 2
Caine walked up, cast Snipe on himself and shot the Archon once or twice and cast Snipe again on Reliant. Reliant walked up and shot the Archon, dealing little damage. Alexia crafted a Thrall who ran toward the left side, so I would be able to contest enemy flag easily. Everything else ran forward, outside of enemy threat ranges.
Round 2 Turn 1
Bartek decided to use Durst’s feat and created a wall out of his most durable warjacks and placing the lighter ones in the second line, saving them for the counterstrike. Menite Archon moved out of my charge range. Crusader and Vigilant created an impenetrable wall, with ARM 23 and 25 respectively.
Round 2 Turn 2
I knew that charging in with full strength was not the best idea. Instead, I decided to throw Stormclad in and add a couple of Stormblades to tie enemy warjacks in the middle of the board and leave the rest of the infantry and heavy hitting solos safe in the second line. First, Thrall ran to contest the left flag. Alexia created another one to score mine. Reliant aimed to and shot at the Menite Archon in cover, but sadly he missed. In a retrospection I think aiming was a mistake, I should get closer to the center of the board where all the action was taking place. Stormclad walked up and dealt some damage with his sword. Stormblade Officer used Iron Zeal and ordered his unit to charge. I managed to deal even more damage to Crusader (i believe a crippled a system, but I’m not sure now). The two Stormblades that charged the objective destroyed it, but eventually we forgot about it and I didn’t add a scenario point for that, so I scored only one point this turn, 1:0.
Round 3 Turn 1
What was easy to predict, Protectorate warjacks took care of Stormclad and Stormblades in the first line. It took some time though. It was tough to get to my second line, so my models prepared for a counterpunch remained untouched. Bartek managed to kill the contesting Thrall, but didn’t have enough models to contest my flag, so we both scored a point, 2:1.
Round 3 Turn 2
I had to take time and plan the correct order of activation. I had to get rid of Vigilant in front of my army to be able to charge enemy warjacks behind him. I had to take care of Menite Archon too. Caine walked up, feated and put some additional shots on Menite Archon. Reliant moved to the zone finally and managed to finish the Archon. Acosta, SB Captain and Gwen took care of Vigilant and made space for the rest of my models. Stormblades charged in and finished Crusader. Two of my Stormblades charged Dervish and managed to cripple a system of two. Alexia crafted another Thrall who ran to contest the flag. I was happy with how this turn unraveled. I managed to gain a significant attrition advantage and kept Caine fairly safe hahah but was he that safe??
Round 4 Turn 1
Bartek with so little time left decided to go for a caster kill. Dervish was taken out of equation with his cortex crippled (I guess it was cortex). Durst decided to step in and do it himself, but he simply didn’t have means to put Caine down. He survived and we shook hands. Caine survived, yeeeeeah! Bartek scored his flag and contested mine, 3:2 to my advantage.

Ohh, that was an interesting game! I manage to keep Caine alive haha. I made some mistakes, like not moving Reliant closer to the center of the table. I was happy with how my models managed to keep the center occupied and tied enemy models there. I had enough space to maneuver and I could use my solos first to allow other models to charge in.
If it comes to a tournament, it was a pity that there had to be a player pausing each round, I hope that next time it won’t be the case. I won both games that I played and paused the first round, what meant I had won 3 games. I placed 2nd, as my friend, Paweł, had better SoS (he didn’t pause so I didn’t expect anything else). Congrats to all 11 participants for coming and for having fun I hope 😉
As for the lists, well, I didn’t get a chance to test Nemo2 in GD that I brought, but Caine in both games performed quite well. It was tough to keep him alive, and I think that almost any other Storm Division oriented warcaster would perform better, but he has it’s niche. Who else would be able to take down Haley Echos that easily other than Caine1? Caine2 probably hahah but it wasn’t that bad after all.
Now it’s time for some 75p games!
