Caine1 vs The Dreamer – Stay alive! please…

Hello everyone!

We are organizing a Brawlmachine tournament on 15.08, with a little twist – it’s going to be 35p instead of regular 25p, with no sideboard.

I rolled a die to randomly select my warcasters and I got Nemo2 and Caine1. It is what it is, right? I had to build lists where those two warcasters can use their potential. Caine1 has some cool tools that might come in handy. For instance a combination of Snipe and Deadeye can be devastating on a unit with powerful shooting. I chose Storm Division right away and stayed with it till the tournament.

Defiled Archon was proxied with a Sigmarite model on a huge base, the original one is being painted now in a studio.

In this variant I decided to take Firefly to additionally increase damage potential of assaulting Stormblades. I had to proxy the UA, as I left it at home ;/

By the way, the telegraphic posts on the table were placed there only for decorative purposes, they were not any kind of obstacles or anything like that.

We played Asteroids.

I won the roll and decided to go first. I deployed Caine in the center, Stormblades and solos on the right, jacks on the left. Simple as that 😉

Kamil deployed his battle group more or less centrally with Gorehound aiming for the building yet again.

Caine cast Snipe on Reliant and Blur on Stormblades with an intention to keep them safe from Clockatrice’s sprays. Everything ran forward.

The Dreamer cast Mirrage on S&M and Artifice of Deviation in front of my warjacks. Everything else ran forward. Gorehound took position behind the building. Gremlin Swarm ran to the flag and I was begining to worry about how to remove this model. Defiled Archon also cast Desecration (another 5″ AoE rough terrain and -2 to attack rolls within it) but we put it after I took the photos.

I had to figure out how to engage enemy models and not to loose everything in retaliation in the next turn. I measured the distance from Stormblades and I realized I can assault the Clockatrice and have her within their shooting range even when she teleports away. That plan included casting Snipe and Deadeye on them. I dropped both spells and Caine cast the two spells and moved away to the trench. Firefly walked up 6, missed the Clockatrice and repositioned to be within 5″. Reliant moved up and shot her, crippling one of the aspects. Why didn’t I move him within the zone? No idea. Stormblades assaulted Clockatrice, WA hit the attack first, so every attack hit automatically and the last shot got the job done, the cuckoo was no more. Acosta walked up to the flag. Stormclad stayed away from the S&M threat ranges, but in a hindsight I think he should have moved to the zone.

Kamil trivially killed Firefly and created a Phantasm out of it that moved to the flag. S&M after killing Firefly had a couple of attacks to spare and killed a Stormblade or two. Gorehound killed a couple more. Grymkin Archon killed another one that was contesting the zone. Another Phantasm, created out of one of my infantry models, ran to contest my flag. The middle zone was cleared and Kamil scored 3 points! This was not looking good.

I had to score two points, but the most important thing was denying Kamil to score his flag! I had magical attacks on my whole battle group, but I had no way of ignoring stealth… My only idea was to try to roll a lucky deviation and kill it with a blast damage. Sadly, I rolled to high and Reliant’s AoE drifted too far away. That was out of the question, I had to focus on scoring the middle flag. Caine walked up and started shooting. I wanted to get rid of those nasty Phantasms and be within 12″ from Gremlin Swarm, so the next turn I would be able to kill it with Caine. I used even my feat to do so, but when the dust settled and he ran out of ammo in his pistols, both Phantasms were still there! I missed most of his attacks, and those that hit, failed to do any damage, how unlucky! Stormclad shot S&M and missed his attack… Stormblades managed to remove both Phantasms, but S&M was still alive with some boxes left. Skin&Moans was still contesting the flag. I couldn’t score a point there, so Acosta charged in and killed him, but that was it. I scored only one point on my flag, 1:4.

Kamil simply contested my flag with a Gorehound and flipped the clock, 5:1 to Grymkin.

Afterthoughts

I created a buymeacoffee profile, where you can support me and contribute to development of this blog by buying me a “coffee”. Funds gathered this way will be used on blog maintenance and making more 3D terrain 😉

Ohhh that nasty Gremlin Swarm on the flag cost me the game. I could have played my 3rd turn better, but I could also blame my dice. Also, Caine has to simply learn how to shoot better before the tournament ;d

I decided to kill the Clockatrice first, as I wanted to avoid getting Caine killed the same way Nemo2 died in my previous 35p game ;p Also, killing Clockatrice later on could be problematic, so I wanted to get rid of her as soon as possible.

The Dreamer is a powerful caster in general, but in 35p game her ability to create free contesting models is what makes her shine even brighter. A nice game after all, but it could have lasted longer ;P
