Kraye1 vs Agathon1 – Local tournament – 3rd round

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the long break, I don’t have as much free time as I would like to, but finally I managed to finish the report 😉

In the third round I faced Andrzej and his the most beautiful Infernals! I took Kraye and Andrzej picked Agathon without hesitation. I won the starting roll and decided to go first.

Andrzej’s Agathon list:

My Kraye1 list:

Deployment

There is nothing much to be deployed in the 50p list. I put Centurion on the left, Ironclad (proxied with Ol’Rowdy) on the right and Cyclone in the center, as I wasn’t sure which way would Andrzej go. Trenchers were advance deployed in the center.

Andrzej put Agathon in the middle and a Tormentor on his left and right. Little arc node was deployed in the middle. Cultists and Dark Sentinels (that now are a separate unit) were placed on the right.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

Nothing spectacular here, everything ran forward, outside of enemy threat ranges. Pathfinder from Kraye certainly helped Cyclone a lot to cross the crater in the middle. I really dig how Kraye changed in this edition, especially Iron Horse rule (passive +2 SPD, Pathfinder and Repo 5″ to his battle group). However, it will take me some time to adapt to reduced threat ranges. Warjacks do not threat 15″ anymore. Oh, Kraye cast Admonition on Centurion.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Andrzej summoned Desolator and blocked LoS with the cloud effect and decided to wait for me to engage on his conditions.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

I decided to play it slowly and wait for Infernals to open a little. I moved my cannon to the right and didn’t take any shots in order not to allow Andrzej to summon an Umbral Guardian this turn. Centurion moved to the left side, while Trenchers took the middle, screening my jacks a little. Kraye managed to put Pin Cushion on the right most Tormentor for future purposes. In this round we realized there was no flag in this scenario, so we removed it.

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

Andrzej couldn’t wait any longer. Infernals stared by missing a Hellmouth into Trenchers! Cultists ran forward to body block Centurion. Desolator went in and reduced Ironclad’s ARM with his spray. Dark Sentinels (those guys with huge swords that used to be Cultists’ weapon attachemnts) managed to drag Los to Ironclad and dismanteled him.

Round 2 Turn 2

Round 3 Turn 1

After a rather long moment of figuring out the order of activation I stared with Kraye feating and charging into Dark Sentinels. Then he cast Pin Cushion against the closest horror and repositioned back. Master Gunner granted another shot to the weapon crew. The Cannon came closer to the enemy and shot Desolator twice. The crew killed the last Dark Setinel. Cyclone finished Desolator and put one or two shots into Tormentor. Trenchers charged Cultists and made way for Centurion that walked up and finished second horror. That was a pretty intense Turn! Kraye’s feat allowed my warjacks to deal much more damage than they would normally do, I love the change!

Round 3 Turn 1

Round 3 Turn 2

Agathon cast Curse of Shadows to reduce Centurion’s ARM. Agathon also cast Influence and Hellmouth to kill all the remainig Trenchers but Master Gunner. Cultists charged my warjacks and blocked it against the house on the left, so I couldn’t escape with Admonition. Tormentor charged and did what had to be done – Centurion was no more. I believe Andrzej scored a point here.

Round 3 Turn 2

Round 4 Turn 1

We were going head to head and killing the Tormentor (and not getting killed in return) was decisive. Fortunately, Pin Cushion and lucky rolls for the number of shots helped me in killing the Tormentor and remainig Cultists. Kraye also put a shot or two into Cultists/Foreboder. Master Gunner charged and killed the Foreboder. Now I Just needed Kraye to survive the spell barrage that was coming!

Round 4 Turn 1

Round 4 Turn 2

Agathon charged Master Gunner to extend his spell range and luckily he missed one spell and the rest that hit, didn’t make enough damage, it was close though!

Round 4 Turn 2

Oh, how much I like the way they changed Kraye! His list’s damage output increased significantly! I still need to adapt to shorter threat ranges. Kraye gives now only +2 SPD and Repo 5 (what is not bad at all). Cyclone is an amazing warjacks now. The change to Centurion is painful, as he can be now charged by living models no matter what, but it doesn’t make him useless at all. Ironclad is still a cheap beatstick, but this time he didn’t do much.

I need to try a slightly different approach to Kray and build him more around shooting warjacks. Maybe in a 75p list?

What are your impressions? What’s your experience with Kraye?

Cheers,
Piotr
