Nemo2 vs The Dreamer – Et tu, Brute?

Hello everyone!

As part of my preparation for 35p tournament I played with my friend, Kamil, who after a long hiatus, convinced by a great deal on Grymkin, decided to come back. He was a Cygnar player once… oh how low can one fall 😛 The latin sentence in the title is there for a reason, this game has a ridiculous ending, bear with me 😉 Let’s get to it!

Defiled Archon was proxied with a Sigmarite model on a huge base, the original one is being painted now in a studio.

After the game against Haley3 (battle report HERE) I decided I definitely need more magical attacks, ignoring stealth would be a plus. I decided on taking Vigilants together with Glynn and see how would it work. Also, they have stealth themselves, so in such a small format it might be problematic to my opponent. Not in this case maybe, but in general 😉

We played Syzygy.

Deployment

I won the roll and decided to go first. I deployed Nemo closer to the flag, together with Firefly and Centurion. Junior took central position, Mechanics and Dynamo were deployed on the left. Vigilants were advance deployed in the center, together with Glynn.

Kamil deployed The Dreamer to the left, her battle group in the center with Gorehound planning to go right. That nasty Gremlin Swarm was going to capture the flag.

Nemo cast Energizer, Fail Safe on Dynamo and Polarity Shield on Vigilants and moved forward. Junior cast Arcane Shield on Centurion and moved forward as well. Centurion and Dynamo ran forward, Mechanics accompanied them. Vigilants and Glynn moved forward, but not too far.

The Dreamer moved forward, she cast Mirrage on S&M and Artifice of Deviation in the middle of the board. All the beasts ran forward. Gorehound took shelter under the big tree on the right. Defiled Archon moved forward, cast Desecration, which is -2 to attack rolls, on top of another rough terrain! Looks painful to a caster without a way to grant his warjacks pathfinder.

I measured the distance carefully, and with Energizer I could get Dynamo within 10″ of S&M and shot few lightnings there. Sadly, Kamil didn’t put any of his Crabbits with shield guards close to his heavies on the right side. Glynn and a Vigilant or two shot first. Then, Nemo cast Energizer and moved toward the flag. After upkeeping 2 spells, giving two to Dynamo and casting Energizer he was camping only 1 foc. Firefly moved up and shot S&M and dealt some damage. Dynamo walked up and opened fire. He hit all of his 4 attacks and that was enough to put Skin&Moans to sleep! I was up a heavy, yeeey. Mechanics ran in front of Nemo to protect him from that side, just in case.

What I should have measured however, was 17″ from a Clockatrice. Nemo was just within Clockatrice assault shot range with 0.5″ to spare. First, Gorehound charged in to kill a Gobber in order to make line of sight to the Archon. He failed all of his attacks. Good start, eh? Then, Clockatrice assaulted my objective, missed Gobbers, but managed to Paralyze Nemo, and dealt 4 damage. Then the Archon moved in, cast a spell and teleported 5″ sideways and was able to draw line of sight to my warcaster. He cast Hellfire and left Nemo on 3hp! The only chance Kamil had, was to critically hit Glynn or one of Vigilants and take control of the model. She hit her first shot, but failed to roll a crit. The second shot however, critically hit one Vigilant. Kamil moved him to see my caster and shot him. My own model obviously hit Nemo and the damage roll of 5,6 finished the game. What the… did I just loose to my own model?! 😀 well played!

Afterthoughts

As you could read, the ending was hilarious haha dying to my own model was something I never experienced before!

I should have measured the distance between Clockatrice and Nemo. On the other hand, if Kamil would put a Crabbit on the other flank, near S&M the game would look totally differently. I couldn’t really tell if Vigilants were the right choice, especially after they killed my own caster hahaha

I wasn’t convinced on Junior and Firefly in the list. It’s 12p what in a 35p game, what is a lot! Moreover, Junior is easy to kill and that’s 4p I need to protect and keep far from the frontlines. I believe I could spend those points somewhere else. We will see.
