Stryker2 vs Deneghra1 – One can hope

Hello everyone!

Another Legion of Lost Souls game, another Cryx. This time I was playing against Konrad, and he decided to take Denny1 in Ghost Fleet. A list that once frightened people, me included πŸ˜› it is back in businesses, Archonless, with just a couple of new models. This game has a ridiculous ending, so bear with me.

We played Spread the Net.

Deployment

Konrad won a starting roll and decided to go first, I picked a side with no impassable terrain that would block my 30+ infantry models.
Konrad deployed his Wraith engine on the right. Pirates were deployed in the center and on each flank. Denny in the middle with arc nodes on both sides.
I deployed one LoLS unit on the left, one in the center and one PK unit on the right. I deployed Alexia3 fairly in the middle with an intention of reaching PK unit on the right, just to create a Thrall or two when one of PK would get shot. Stryker took central position, Gallant was deployed on the right, Toro on the left.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

Konrad played a quick turn, by simply running forward, outside of my threat ranges, why to lose a model or two when it could be easily avoided? Wraith engine shifted toward the right edge. Nightmare ran through the building. Firing squad took a great position behind the forest in the middle.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

I decided to ran forward, far enough to threaten enemy models, but cautiously enough, not to get shot off the board. It turned out it wasn’t the best decision πŸ˜› as I didn’t spread on my flanks wide enough, first things first though. All of my units ran forward. Stryker cast Deceleration (like it could help lol) and stayed on 3FOC. Gabriel gave PKs Tough. I thought I mixed the units well enough to be able to trigger Vengeance on all of them, that wasn’t the case.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

Konrad noticed that by simply walking forward with Denny and feating, he could get most of my army within his control area. Arc node ran forward toward the center LoLS unit. Denny walked forward, used her feat, cast Crippling Grasp on my middle unit and pirates opened fire. When they stopped, most of my models in the middle were gone, as most of the PKs. Wraith engine ran forward and created a Machine Wraith out of one of the dead PKs, that charged and killed another one. Most of the enemy models stayed out of my threat range, this wasn’t looking good, from my perspective that is πŸ˜‰

Round 2 Turn 1

Round 2 Turn 2

Well, it wasn’t looking good, not at all. At first I wanted to continue playing but when my PKs failed spectacularly and did close to no damage to Wraith engine (come on, they were outside of Denny’s feat) I had to reconsider my plans. Konrad was kind enough to allow me to change my decision, and Gabriel instead of giving +2DMG to first dmg roll to PKs, gave pathfinder to the leftmost LoLS unit. I realized that my desperate situation called for desperate measures. After measuring distance carefully we came to a conclusion, that after feating and running I could get within melee range to Denny with multiple models. First, Stryker walked up, cast Positive Charge on Toro and used his feat. Then, Toro with a couple of foc allocated earlier ran forward, as did Morrowan Archon. Alexia3 walked up and used her +2STR for friendly undead models aura. Then, LoLS ran forward (the ones without Crippling Grasp). Feat movement time! Alexia walked up to reach even farther. Toro walked up, but missed his boosted feat attack (Stryker’s feat allows to boost out of activation). Well, that was sad. Then Morrowan Archon walked up, within 3″ from Toro and 2″ from Denny, and I rolled my 3 dice to discard the lowest, hoping for a lucky crit roll. I couldn’t believe my eyes – I rolled 4, 4, 1 – that meant that after discarding the 1 I not only hit Denny, but also critically blinded her LOL! Hermit obviously negated Archon’s damage roll. Now it was time for some skeleton action! With effective MAT 8 against DEF12 it was rather trivial to hit all the attacks. Effective PS14 (+2 from Positive Charge, +2 from Alexia3, but -2 from Denny’s feat) meant that I was damaging her with straight dice. The third attack got the job done!! I couldn’t believe that, neither could Konrad hahah What a ridiculous ending to a rather one sided game, up to this point!

Round 2 Turn 2

We finished this game after an hour of playing? We had still an hour or so until another scheduled game, so we decided to rewind the game and start it over, this time I was the first player.

As you may expect it went only worse, as first turn I ran forward, the second I feated and ran again, but didn’t kill enough models. Pirates came back to game and massacred my skeletons. That second game was equally short πŸ˜› I guess I should have played the second game slower.

I don’t want to go through it step by step, I will simply post few photos below, so you cold see the scale of the defeat for yourself πŸ˜›

Afterthoughts

I created a buymeacoffee profile, where you can support me and contribute to development of this blog by buying me a “coffee”. Funds gathered this way will be used on blog maintenance and making more 3D terrain πŸ˜‰
If anyone would like to do so, you can follow the link below. You can also leave a private message there. Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated!

As you can see, running and feating is a viable strategy with Stryker2 and lots of 2″ reach models! Especially, since they can be buffed that well! Normally, they would be MAT 10 and PS 18! I’d love to have more games with this list and see how it performs in a more suitable environment – at least some living models that is πŸ˜‰

As for the Ghost Fleet – ohhh, I now remember how it was, and I know why I was so happy when it was gone (in my local meta at least). What do you think about this particular Stryker2 FitD list? Do you think it can be somewhat competitive or is it just one sided and can be easily countered? Do you have any experience with LoLS?

Oh, and by the way, Oddsmachine says it was 18.06% chances for a Morrowan Archon to critically Blind Denny. Much better than I thought.

I kept painting them and finished a week later, here you have a group photo πŸ˜‰

Cheers,
Piotr
