Vayl1 vs Kaelyssa1 – Round 1 – Expect the unexpected

Hello everyone!

I recently attended a 75p tournament in Warsaw and I decided to go for Legion this time 😉 I brought Kryssa1 and Vayl1, but I played the later exclusively all three rounds.

In the first round I faced Damian, who brought Retribution this time. He decided to take Kaelyssa1 in a quite aggressive list 😉 I took Vayl1 and here we go!

Damian’s Kaelyssa1 list:

Retribution

[Kaelyssa 1] Kaelyssa, the Night’s Whisper [+29]

House Ellowuyr Swordsmen (max) [16]
– House Ellowuyr Swordsman Officer & Standard [0(5)]

My Vayl1 list:

Legion
[Theme] Oracles of Annihilation

[Vayl 1] Vayl, Disciple of Everblight [+27]
– Angelius [14]
– Scythean [14]
– Seraph [13]
Blight Archon [9]
– Mekanoshredder [4]
– Raek [6]
Blighted Nyss Shepherd [1]
Blighted Nyss Sorceress & Hellion [0(6)]
Thagrosh Hellborne [0(5)]
– Typhon [18]
Blackfrost Shard [9]
Blighted Nyss Hex Hunters (min) [9]
– Bayal, Hound of Everblight [0(5)]
Ice Witches [5]

Deployment

Fortunately I won the starting roll, so I immediately decided to go first. I had to push hard in order to have any chance. Damian’s list was heavily oriented on assassination and Vayl is really easy to kill.

I placed Vayl and Seraph in the middle. I put Angelius, Typhon and Blight Archon on the left. Sythean and Reak were deployed on the right. I put supporting models all around 😛
I forgot Blackfrost Shard models from home… but my colleagues were kind enough and allow me to proxy them with other similar models.

Damian deployed Kaelyssa in the middle with all Aeternae close to the center. He put Defenders on the left and Swordsmen on the right.

Deployment

Round 1 Turn 1

I ran everything forward outside of threat ranges that honestly were quite scary 😛 Archon cast Crimson Ballet on himselg and Dragon’s Blood on Typhon. Vayl cast Leash on Angelius in the middle. Thagrosh0 took Ethrynbal’s Guidance as his first mutation (rerolls). Scythean together with Helion and Reak pushed a little bit harder on the right side.

Round 1 Turn 1

Round 1 Turn 2

Everything ran forward. Kaelyssa moved behind her warjacks and killed two Hex Hunters. The whole battle group was ready to open fire the next round. Defenders received Blur I believe and ran forward to the rectangular zone. Aelyth Vyr moved to the flag on the left. Swordsmen also ran to the rectangular zone.

Round 1 Turn 2

Round 2 Turn 1

After pre-measuring the distances carefully I decided to go for the assassination. From the start I knew that the game was going to end on one warcaster/warlock dying or another. I could deliver Typhon with rerolls to hit and Incite and that was enough to put all eggs in one basket 😉 I started with Seraph placing with Apparition closer to Typhon. Then, Thagrosh took Draconic Mastery mutation (free animus of any friendly warbest in ctrl range) and cast Slip Stream to place Vayl forward. Angelius repositioned slightly and shot the solo on the flag, because why not haha. Vayl moved forward to catch Kaelyssa just within 12″, cast Incite and Slip Stream to place Seraph even closer to Typhon. I also used her feat, just in case something went wrong (but I don’t think that would help anyway :P). Seraph cast his animus and placed Typhon 2″ forward. Ice Witches cast Puppet Master on Typhon. The beast moved forward and sprayed Kaelyssa three times. All sprays hit and killed Kaelyssa on spot!

Round 2 Turn 1

Afterthoughts

I created a buymeacoffee profile, where you can support me and contribute to development of this blog by buying me a “coffee”. Funds gathered this way will be used on blog maintenance and making more 3D terrain 😉
If anyone would like to do so, you can follow the link below. You can also leave a private message there. Any kind of feedback is highly appreciated!

I would like to thank Benoit, Samu, Krzysztof, Daniel RG and Endre for supporting me on buymeacoffee. It really means a lot to me! Thank you!

It ended quickly, but honestly half inch the other way, or a few bad rolls and it would end totally differently. It had to end on assassination and I was the lucky one this time.

I believe the starting roll in this match up was crucial. It increased my chances dramatically!

Thanks, Damian, for the game! I am looking forward to our next match!

Cheers,
Piotr
